Probably one of the best LSU sports games of all times. This is what the Dome used to be. I miss those days.

LMU brings a tear to my eye. The younguns won’t remember Hank Gathers.

Most amazing part of that game is the boxscore

In that frantic game that went to OT
We played 9 players, with
Krajewski and Boudreaux playing 3 minutes each
So 7 guys played a ton of minutes

And shaq had a triple double with 12 blocks

Gathers and Kimble and that LMU team sure was fun to watch. I was 14 when all that was going down, such a good game.

Nice post, thank you sir!

I witnessed it firsthand sitting in the student section....hell, I had to buy Gatorade at halftime, I was worn out just from watching... fastest pace game I ever watched in my life..the teletype machine burned up by halftime...no joke....

Watched it live on TV. Have pointed my colllege aged kids back to it often. For me, it is GOAT LSU regular season game.

That is what the PMAC used to sound like from the late 1970's to the early 90's. That game and the Super Bowl Sunday game against UNLV were classics.

I was there. If StubHub was available then. I would not know who Shaq was.

LMU was fun to watch. Tragic when Gathers went down. I don't think there was a Sports fan in the Country with a Dry Eye when Kimble shot that Free Throw Left Handed!!

I watched this one on TV with two friends. The game was so incredible that I have very specific memories of that day as a 13 yr old.

I want to say we played them 1-2 other times during this era. Not sure if Gathers was also in those games.

Most exciting basketball game I've seen. You were on the edge of the seat the entire game.

Great memory there. Have reached the point in my journey that it was almost forgotten. Thanks for the post, especially in this time of madness:-)

Hank died March 4, 1990. I will never forget that day. LMU was so much fun to watch. That game at the PMac was one of the greatest basketball games I ever saw.

I remember when I saw Bo Kimble shooting FTs left handed to honor Hank after his death

I remember playing in a little league basketball game in Walker and inside the gym there was a guy watching the game on a small TV. I saw the score LSU 96 LMU 89 and I remember thinking, “Ok, LSU won.” Then we get home, I turn on WAFB and to my surprise the game was still going on and both teams had over 100 points. My little 8 year old mind was blown.

I've been a diehard LSU fan since 1977, and I don't recall us ever playing LMU except that one time.

My son and I were there. Relentless comes to mind when I think about Hank G. Shaq would block him and he just kept coming.
Incredible effort. That game was the reason Paul Westphal drafted CJ / MAR. He was built for that style of play. Tourette‘s syndrome sucks because the drugs killed his NBA career.
