Offense: Same. Some of it was very good (A&M second half and OT), some of it was very bad (Bama). Overall, QB play was an improvement, but OL was a weakness, giving up sacks and at times struggling to open rushing lanes.

Defense: Worse. Injuries have as much to do with it as anything, but overall the 2018 defense did not live up to what it was last year. In many ways, it was worse than last year. DL struggled and relied too much on White to clean up the rushing plays. Linebacker play, overall, was solid. Pass defense, outside of Greedy, was a mixed bag.

ST: Better. It can be argued that ST carried this team. Great punting, kickoffs in the back of the end zone and a clutch field goal kicker. Punt returns were worse than last year and at times hurt the team.

Coaching: Better. Slightly better. This coaching staff did great in big moments (Miami, Auburn, UGA and yes even parts of the A&M game). It also underperformed and played down in games where they should have separated themselves with the competition. It struggled to close on Florida and adjust in Bama. It did not take chances to beat A&M in a critical OT period and went conservative. Recognizing need (QB and PK) and getting the best available in Juco transfers was key for this season. Having a full-time ST coach and a growing army of analysts helped. Still, both lines (DL and OL) seemed to decline. Recruiting must finish strong.

, there isn't a metric out there that suggest it was better in regulation.

Hell, a strong argument can be made that Etling was superior to Burrow too.

Nothing has changed. It’s all the same since 2014.

Better. 3 losses to ranked teams. Last year we lost to Troy.

Still... from a diehard LSU fan that was one of the worst feeling losses I can recall this weekend. I was there for that referee shitshow

Much Better season...much more fun...Auburn, Florida, Georgia games were all great entertainment and the ATM game was written in the history books.

it's ENTERTAINMENT. So on that level it performed grandly.

Agreed, I would prefer LSU to be entertaining than winning

I'd argue that overall the offense is worse, particularly if you look at statistics. Burrow is a better QB than Etling, and shows it when he's given time to throw the ball. The OL continues to be a weakness and it's plagued us for years. The play calling is worse IMO. Very conservative in the red zone and reminiscent of what we saw under Miles. WR corps has talent, but they have way too many drops.

The defense was better this year by nearly every metric too. Funny how what you feel and what actually happened are two different thing entirely.

I would offer worse for OFF - no Guice/Williams, mixed bag of WR's (some young budding stars though with Chase and Marshall) with too many drops, new QB who didn't arrive until summer, and a young OL that seemed to not get better as the season unfolded. Promise is ALL of them return next season except Brosette and Brumfield.

DEF: agreed, injuries AND the lack of developing a pass-rusher was profound. With all the supposed talent on the roster, we never had another DE/OLB step up. PT was there for the taking.

ST: MUCH better. KO touchbacks/coverage was off the charts. FG kicking was outstanding. P often flipped the field or pinned them deep. While the return game took a step back, the aforementioned three areas make this facet of the team 'much' better.

Coaching: better. We played 7 ranked teams this season and finished 4-3 (one L stolen from us, other due to poor execution), and obviously won the other games. OL play must improve for this team to make strides next season and make the CPOs. The rest of the pieces are there, barring any surprise underclassmen departures - OFF (QB, WR's, new RB's), DEF (every level & a healthy Chaisson) and ST's.

I would say overall this year was better than last year. Our schedule was brutal compared to last year.

Last year we were saying "if only we won that Troy game", this year we're saying "if only we won that @Florida and @A&M game". We were a hell of a lot closer this year to being 11-1 than last year and our schedule was much tougher

Good news, next year's schedule is a lot easier. I expect a CFP appearance next year. If not, clean house.

Meh. Win the bowl game and we can all say it’s better.

Lose and at best it’s a wash.

Offense worse
Defense probably better but dealt with a lot of injury issues
ST better by a lot
Coaching the same or worse.

Bottom line I guess: we didn’t win the west, didn’t win the SEC, didn’t make the playoff and didn’t win a National Championship. So weather this year was incrementally better or worse really doesn’t matter.

How? We could very well end up with the exact same record.

Was it though?

We had our one really big win against UGA, much like our one really big win against Auburn last year. Beat some decent teams, lost to Bama, lost a couple we shouldn't have in UF and A&M. I guess we avoided a Troy-like catastrophe, so that's nice. I call it a wash at this point, obviously depending on how the bowl game goes.

That is simply not true.

2017 11th total defense
2018 31st total defense

2017 15th scoring defense
2018 34th scoring defense

We went 9-3 last year and everyone pointed out the schedule was easy.

This was a rebuilding year,(no real offensive weapons) The schedule was much harder and we went 9-3 including a referee hose job in the a&m game.

This year was a definite improvement over last year and Coach O has us going in the right direction. A more imaginitive OC to go with a couple RB and punt return upgrades would set us up for a playoff run next year.

We didn’t lose to a team like Troy this year, but besides that it was pretty much the same or worse.

Much better team and program from 2016 to 2018. To go 9 and 3 with the schedule that LSU had was a solid achievement. We had 8 new starters on offense. We will have 8 or 9 returning starters for 2019. Defense will have 8 starters back.

In both cases we have some red shirts that will reinforce our line of scrimmage.

Completely different outlook for 2019. And the schedule is much more favorable.
