Long been a "casual" fan. Few questions please

Jay is now coach and has done it appears a GREAT job recruiting as evidence by 3 SEC's and no doubt knows his stuff, why did he fail at UGA? I assume that following a person who won 6 NC's and 12 SEC's is tough?

What is a realistic finish this year, looks like UF may be better, so 2nd in SEC and a top 5 finish?

From reading this board we have the best facilities and now have great fan following, what does it take to get a NC over OU and UF who as of now appear out of reach for anyone?

How good is the NJ frosh and how did she get 2 million followers?

Thank you

Haven’t we finished higher than UF multiple times in recent years? OU is the Bama of women’s gymnastics. Don’t get me wrong, they are good, but their scores are traditionally inflated compared to other teams. Their strength is their consistency. They just don’t make mistakes.

From the way it was explained to me, it was a combination of a few factors.

One, was the he just wasn't quite ready from a program organizational standpoint. Was really good at recruiting and new his specialty (bars) well, but wasn't good yet at organizing the program as a whole, managing the routines of the team, etc.

Two, and what was told to me was the bigger issue was that Suzanne Yoculan got in the way and stayed too involved in the program even after her retirement. Jay was in the position of following one of the giants in the sport and she didn't let it go; so it created issues.

That's the gist of what I was told. Tigerbait357 probably has more details and may even know differently.

Wasn’t Jay’s wife part of that program in some capacity too? I’d heard there was some bad blood with the coach.

Not sure about his wife, but Sammi Durante's mother was part of that program and when Jay left that's when Sammi came to LSU. She was originally going to GA.

Anyone hear about the volunteer coach posting some post in bad taste on the official page? I heard a lot of donors dropped out because of it.

He took over after Yoculan retired. It was gonna be pretty tough to follow a legend like that. They lost some talent during the transition (recruits and to graduation).

His teams were okay during the regular season but they absolutely crumbled in the post season which his legit criticism. One thing Jay has yet to prove and will have to prove is if he can manage a program overall in terms of routine construction and being mentally able to compete without major lapses every week. I attached post season finishes. Georgia has had problems since then though since Suzanne and boosters are too handsy, almost like Texas boosters for football.

LSU aint beating Florida unless they help us or we significantly improve. LSU on paper should be good enough to at least finish 2nd but its still too early to tell.

Florida is the best recruiting team in the country, they are snagging all the US national team members, but OU is the gold standard for success and running a program. They recruit clean gymnasts with good foundations and are able to successful develop kids and smartly build routines with minimal deductions which is why they win almost every year. If LSU wants to get there, routine construction has to be addressed and I still don't think it is there based on what I have seen so far. We still have too much built in deductions in routines. Opening week lineups were trash but I hope that changes moving forward.

Olivia Dunne? Everyone in gymnastics has known who she was for years, she used to be a elite gymnast. She became popular on Tik Tok because she's a very strong athlete who is obviously a very pretty girl. Yes she is very good.

So what about DD? Could this be an issue? NOT saying it is but those of you who know more....thoughts?

From what I have heard, I don't think so.

DD is still around LSU as an "ambassador" for the AD and she was at the meet last Friday, but in the stands as a fan. Plus I don't think she has the personality that will cause her to meddle.

Yoculan on the other hand, from what I heard, was a "piece of work" and I'll leave it at that.
