Glad to know it’s already being made clear O isn’t being held to that same standard

build that strawman

maybe, just maybe, he didn't get Dabo/Saban money because they want to see if he can continue his success

because if he wins 2 more nattys in the coming years, he will absolutely get a new contract to match them

How is it a overpay when the guy just got us a championship?? Y’all be so caught up in big names that even though he just got us a title it’s still not enough

Looks about market rate

Eh, I think it's more than he would get on the open market, but I'm not going to freak out unless he underperforms.

This package seems too generous, both as to money and term. Ed just had one of the greatest seasons ever. However, he appears unlikely to replicate an SEC West championship in the near future and he has little marketability outside of LSU. He should be compensated as a top 15-20 coach, but not an elite HC, IMO.

You should be paid for what you are expected to do, not necessarily what you already did.

Plenty of NBA players are overpaid because of the logic you're using.

There's only a handful of current championship coaches in the game right now. History has often made them the highest paid in the business in many of those cases. This is a great deal for both sides.

I fully expect LSU to be back in serious contention in 2021.

The negative O haters have scurried out of hiding after being in stasis for 6 months while we ran roughshod over the entire country.

Can you define serious contention? Is that only a loss to Alabama? 10-2? 9-3 if we’re “still in it” in November?

And whatever it is, don’t expect that this year. Got it

This notion that we could only pay Aranda because Orgeron took a low salary is overstated

It's not overstated. There is most certainly a budget. Now, could that budget have changed based on the decision to reward Orgeron? Of course. And, if that's the case, then the only real risk here is the buyout clause.

His success to this point is tied with the greatest QB in LSU history having the greatest season in CFB history.

There are plenty of reasons to be concerned it may have been just lightning in a bottle. To act otherwise is disingenuous.

I'm fine with the money, I'm just interested in the guarantee/buyout. That says more IMO.

in the playoffs

Right. I don't expect it next year simply because I believe Brennan will have too many costly turnovers. I expect Brennan to have like 35 TDs, but also like 13 INTs.

Superb "gotcha" BTW

This is exactly what these same people praising this move have laughed at A&M and Jimbo Fisher about for two years.

Now all of a sudden it’s ok because it immediately followed a championship.

As if that somehow makes it more sustainable
