If you were as self aware as you think you are, you wouldn't need some anonymous person pointing out to you on Tigerdroppings that you are a contrarian.

If shite goes South then the new TV deal, at that point, would easily address any buyout. RELAX.

Can someone explain how he’s paid? I absolutely believe he’s earned it. But doesn’t the university pay a small base and TAF takes care of the rest? So the TV deal goes to the university, not TAF, right? So TAF would be on the hook.

why are you ignoring other historical perspectives?

Depends on how it sets up, but the AD office hasn’t learned from other teams eff ups, particularly in recent memory.

Chizik and Malzhan are two prime examples. One year should never be given this much credence. I just hope this doesn’t bite LSU in the butt. I’d have been fine with the massive raise and some security but If it is truly fully guaranteed, LSU admin are idiots.

This will be unpopular because folks don’t consider all the possibilities, but six year guaranteed contracts should not be handed out. I can understand Bama doing it for Saban, and maybe Clemson for Dabo. But only because they have proven to have staying power. If Orgeron puts up three straight 3 loss seasons, with losses to Bama every year, this board will be clamoring for him to be fired, and LSU would have a $20 million payout on their hands.

You are 100% right.

Orgeron has done well. But, a person's value is based on their replacement cost. If there is one thing we've seen over the last 2 decades, is that LSU can win big with multiple coaches.

The other thing to consider is that the budget for the program probably doesn't go up with Orgeron's salary. In other words, the idea originally was that Orgeron would have a "low" salary allowing you to get elite coordinators.

Does this contract prevent that from happening? If so, is 7M/yr of a lets say a 12M salary budget make sense to go to Orgeron? Can he continue to win without elite coordinators?

Decisions like this need to be rational. And, I have no complaint with Orgeron. But, what is the risk that he takes another job? What is the risk that LSU couldn't replace him with a similar coach. What is the risk if you somehow have to end up letting him go and have to buy out the contract.

Looking like it's 6 mil/year with other incentives.

I actually really like this set up!

“ News: Can confirm that Ed Orgeron will receive a 6-year contract extension with a $6 million base. With extra benefits and policies, it'll be close to $7 million per year.”

Right because what Les Miles and Gene Chizik did are the only reasons to have concerns that O may not be able to keep us as an annual CFP competitor

6 million base and 5 million dollar life insurance policy.

But I bet the rats won’t come scurrying back to address that.

Orgeron was hired to have a head coach making a smaller salary so that the coordinators could be paid top notch. And that obviously worked well. Will we still do that?

Even with Orgeron’s new salary, we could add a million dollars to the 2019 assistant pool (which included Aranda’s $2.5MM/year) and still be #3 in the SEC for total football coaching budget.

And that’s before every team gets an additional $20MM/year in TV revenue.

This notion that we could only pay Aranda because Orgeron took a low salary is overstated. LSU’s football coaching budget has been low compared to our peers since Miles was fired.

ETA: Also, guarantee he will be outside of the top 10 HC salaries before this deal expires.

agree 100%.. this was not a smart move by LSU at all... Orgeron was going no where... no one was coming to steal him away from us...

and the biggest thing to me is (And I knew this crap was BS as soon as I read it) Remember when he said he would take less money to hire top coordinators!!? yeah that was a load of shite...

Im not saying he doesnt deserve to be well compensated for this past season, (he did get 1.7 million in bonus money because of it) and I dont mind adding years to a contract to help with recruiting purposes (longevity) but this was flat out stupid and emotional decision... 5 million a year is plenty if were paying 2 million+ to two coordinators... he hasnt proven that he has staying power, I would have waited a year on that contract extension because next year will say a whole lot more then this year... this looks like hes cashing in on lightening in a bottle and puts LSU in a tough spot...

Good for O. Now we don't have to worry about USC poaching him when they fire Helton after next season.

The man sacrificed a lot to get us here and 7 mil a year for what we have earned due to his championship team is nothing. I believe in him to succeed and he is not going anywhere so fck a buyout.

I’m happy for O and all, put please tell me what he sacrificed. He couldn’t even get hired by a Syracuse and LSU took a huge risk on him and still paid him well given his history.

He has succeeded and exceeded expectations so far but he in no way made huge sacrifices. He was not going to get hired as a HC at a P5 program other than LSU and he lucked into that with the Auburn game fiasco in 2016 AND Herman turning LSU down for UT.

Some of us are just looking at being realistic that maybe this one season is the outlier and not the norm. He has yet to prove it is the norm.
