I predicted early in the fall that Mathis would be a player. We have all jumped on that bandwagon now.

I have been pro Hughes since the fall. .240 average with one HR.

Hill will be our top closer.

Dugas will hold onto 2nd all year.

Storz will be a Friday or Saturday guy before the year is over.

Toups will eventually replace Gio in CF.

Hampton will not get it done this year. I have him for 2 HR. I hope I'm wrong. His work ethic is starting to make me feel I will be wrong.

Travinski is going to become fan favorite and get some kind of cool nickname.

Cabrera will be our best defensive outfielder and hitter.

Teams will not even attempt to steal on Milazzo by April.

80 plus homeruns.

Natty and Maineri gets tenure for 3 more years. He will need it in 2021 when we lose all our pitching depth.

With the pitchers we will be throwing midweek we shouldn't lose any.

That’s my same thought. But even great pitchers can have an off day, while hitters just see beach balls. So with that, combined with how much Mainieri likes to experiment in the midweek, I could see them dropping at least 1 or 2 of them.

Hughes hits for .300 and moves to the 2 hole. We find out that he pretty fast and he steals 15 bases. The 2 best pitchers on the team end up being Jalen and Storz but they never start on the weekend. This our year

He has definitely looked more confident and good at the plate all spring thus far. He is doing what a bottom of the lineup guy needs to do. He has averaged what has seemed like at least 1 hit per scrimmage (and that’s with only 2-3 at bats), has gotten walks, and has even put the ball in play to move runners over or bring a couple runs in. And that is all against our solid pitching staff.

Hill will be our top closer.

As much as I know many will be clamoring for him to get back into starting rotation, I can see the closer role being more likely, and either using Fontenot as set up or as 2nd closer on games Hill can’t be used. I just think it boils down to they will wait too long to be sure he doesn’t have any lingering effects from injury, combined with the starting rotation being good, that Mainieri won’t want to upset the apple cart. But he has electric closer stuff for sure.

Storz will be a Friday or Saturday guy before the year is over.

Hmmm, maybe; but more likely a similar situation to Hill and he ends up staying in bullpen.

quote:

Toups will eventually replace Gio in CF.

Mainieri definitely appears to really like Toups; so this could be a possibility. But if Bianco doesn’t start hitting, he could end up the Toups victim.

I just have a feeling that if he can start having some fall in, then his confidence will soar. He is starting to make consistent contact and striking out less. Unfortunately they are hit right at people. It’s crazy, the OF’s barely even have to move for most of them.

I really like him with the bat in his hands. Not only does he look the part; but his swing just seems so fluid and easy. Generally makes good contact and has power. I’m hoping he gets a real look at DH and they start working him at first or something during midweek, as I’m not so sure catcher is in his future from a defensive standpoint. But I certainly could be wrong on that part. Others can likely evaluate that better than I.

quote:

Teams will not even attempt to steal on Milazzo by April.

This kid’s arm is electric; but he also has all the other skills and intangibles. At today’s scrimmage, he actually took a high pitch over his head that he caught, but tried to make it seem like it got by him in order to fake out the runner on 3rd to see if he would stray too far off base. And he does not hesitate to throw behind a base runner. You just don’t see that from a freshman generally. Hell, you don’t see it from most experienced guys. Unfortunately, I think his bat keeps him from doing anything more than giving Garza a day off or finishing in mop up duty in blowouts.

1) We will see more complaints on the Rant about no chair back seats in the outfield.

2) LSU players will strike out and our pitchers will walk batters.

3) Our batters will get hits and even homeruns and our pitchers will throw over 90 mph.

4) We will get weather threads on the Rant predicting games will be rained out or will be rain delayed a week before the games are played.

5) Umpires will be vilified and accused of losing games for LSU.

6) We will not go undefeated.

7) Lester Earl will find more new ways to criticize LSU players, fans and coaches.

Mo Hampton got his first base hit today in a scrimmage.

ETA: He then stole second base.

Then he stole third base.

Then he scored on a base hit.

What sense would it make to bring up a flawed roster in a fearless prediction thread anyways?
