Fact is when you combined this roster with Johnny

We were bound to get very poor results. Johnny's forte had always been recruiting, not in game coaching and he simply didn't recruit near well enough to replace Hornsby, Quarterman, Simmons, Gray and eventually Victor all leaving before SEC play this season.
We were ultimately left with one of the worst rosters in the SEC when Victor was booted off this year. Case in point, going by composite star rating on 247 for each SEC basketball roster this season, I'll rank the rosters accordingly:
1. UK - 7 5-stars, 2 4-stars, 2 3-stars, 1 International player
2. UF - 2 5-stars, 6 4-stars, 5 3-stars, 1 grad transfer
3. AU - 2 5-stars, 4 4-stars, 4 3-stars, 2 grad transfers (1 fmr. 4-star)
4. Bama - 7 4-stars, 5 3-stars, 2 grad transfers (1 fmr. 3-star)
5. MSU - 8 4-stars, 2 3-stars, 1 xfer
6. USC - 1 5-star, 3 4-stars, 5 3-stars, 1 2-star, 1 xfer, 2 unranked JUCOs
7. Arky - 5 4-stars, 6 3-stars
8. A&M - 6 4-stars, 3 3-stars, 1 grad xfer
9. LSU - 1 5-star, 2 4-stars, 8 3-stars
10. UT - 1 5-star, 10 3-stars, 1 xfer
11. UGA - 2 4-stars, 9 3-stars, 1 2-star, 1 xfer
12. Vandy - 3 4-stars, 6 3-stars, 1 xfer
13. Mizzou - 1 4-star, 8 3-stars
14. OM - 1 4-star, 7 3-stars, 1 international player
So basically we didn't have one of the more talented rosters in the conference this year which is what Johnny always needed to really win. Hopefully the new coach, not only is a better in-game coach, but can help rebuild the talent a bit here. We certainly need it.

And think how poorly he would have recruited without Temple backing him.

He couldn't make the tourney with Victor, Simmons and Blakeney. Johnny has literally no excuses. It would be such an Alleva move to keep him though.

He's not that good of a recruiter either. that is just regurgitated information that everyone inserts into their narrative

You forgot Tim Quaterman, you know that guy that's on an NBA roster today, and a senior leader in Hornsby, who is playing in the D-League.
this team this year didn't lack talent, it lacked talented depth.
You could put 5 guys out there that could compete on a talent level with just about anyone. it's the backups that lacked the talent. and the fact that there is no leader on this team.

Definitely lacked some talent compared to other SEC teams and our own team's from the recent past. 1 5-star and 2 4-stars is pretty meager, especially when you consider 1 of those 4-stars is ER III who is basically like a walk on. The depth in the front court is the worst it's ever been just about.

Temple helps him recruit? I've heard it all now
Posted on 3/9/17 at 10:19 am to thunderbird1100
Plus he kicked one of the best players off the team for no reason.

Everyone knew there would be a drop off. But for frick's sake, we should be able to win more than 2 games in the worst P5 conference.

This isn't football where talent is absolutely needed to be good. Dayton has never had a guy higher than a 3 star on their team, yet they would beat the crap out of LSU and if they were in the SEC would still make the tourney every year, even with their average talent.
Blakeney is an NBA talent.
Brandon Sampson might be the most athletic guy in the league, and that's saying a lot considering Blakeney looks like he has springs in his shoes.
They have two 6'9" guys that can block shots and hit a shot from the outside.
and a freshman point guard with size.
They might not have the best scorers on their team, but the talent they have should make them a great defensive team, yet they are one of the worst defensive teams ever, and that falls solely on the coach, not the players.
LSU keeps pouring players into the NBA, but has absolutely nothing to show for it other than a Final Four 11 years ago. You realize that there are only a handful of teams in the country that have more alums on NBA right now than LSU? and the 4 best players from the Final Four aren't in the league anymore, just Temple is.

Please don't F up this next hire Joe. Now, more than ever is the time to put up some $$ and get somebody good. You saved money on football with coach O. Time to splurge on this B-Ball program that's at the bottom of conference with even less talent coming back next year.
No matter who he hires it'll take AT LEAST 2-3 years to get the B-Ball program to be a top 3 SEC team.

The team lacks strength and toughness. No coach in the country would make that roster an NIT team. That doesn't take blame from JJ, though.

Temple didn't want Trent Johnson hired so did what he could to sabatoge his ability to recruit LA.
JJ is Temple's handpicked coach so he did support LA players coming to LSU during Jj's tenure.

This makes what Bryce Drew has done more impressive than I thought it would have been.

You do realize what fan base you are talking to right? They will beg to differ, but many people who follows aau and college basketball in this day and age knows this. Last year ok i get it, but then when you hear about the things that went on behind closed doors, you kinda get that too.But clearly yhis team was horrible, low iq, horrific shooting and turnover prone.
They caught Livingston(asst coach) with an expression that was priceless after a turnover and score, that pretty much summed the season up.

Because they're a disciplined team. And that's a result of good coaching.
Case in point: in 1989, I saw Roy Williams bring a Kansas team in a rebuilding year with 5 slow, undersized starters into the PMAC, and they whipped the living tar out of that fabled LSU team of Shaq, Chris Jackson and Stanley Roberts.

Blakeney will make an NBA roster. He may take a while to develop b/c of the poor coaching he's received in college, but he'll be in the NBA.
and I don't know if you remember, but that arse whipping we handed out in Houston, a bunch of scouts were at that game to see Reath.
there will be many teams with less talent that will win games in tourney, get at large bids in the tourney, and make the NIT and win games. The country isn't littered with 5 stars and 4 stars. There's only so many out there. there's over 300 ncaa teams. the vast majority of them play without 4 and 5 stars every year.
LSU would have finished middle of the pack at best of the A-10 this year, but would have been the most talented team in the conference based on these stars.

By this standard the biggest flop in the league is Bruce Pearl. Yet some people are clamoring for him to replace Johnny Jones.
