Expected # of seasons for Emmitt Williams as a Tiger?

I know that Emmitt Williams is a stud and super-athletic, but possibly undersized for how he plays. The expectation for Naz Reid is 1-and-done I know. Does Williams project as a 1-year player too or can we expect to see him around for a few seasons?

He could very well play his way into a one and done season. Not a chance he is here more than 2 years...

I am just going to enjoy it while it lasts. If Wade develops a reputation of developing talent to be one and dones it will be fine with me because other recruits will see that and come here, too. Has worked well for KY.

It wouldn't be completely surprising if he left after 1, but if he's making a smart decision, likely 2-3 years.

Here's some facts:

He is very short for a true power forward, 6'6-6'7 wont get you drafted highly as a true athletic power 4 by NBA teams if you cant handle the ball well enough or aren't a decent threat as a shooter.

Williams will have to develop a shot and/or better ball handling in college to be a 1st round pick. Common wisdom says that wont happen in just 1 year, but could happen after 2-3 years. Also, being a tough defender on the defensive side could add a lot to his stock if he shows that here. Jordan Mickey was in a very similar situation to Williams, and he was a fantastic rim protector, cant say that right now about Williams. Mickey also never developed an outside game, but had an OK mid-range jumper. Keep in mind, Mickey was a 2nd round pick after 2 seasons here.

I hope the exit class has so much of an impact that we have another good class behind them and it just keeps snowballing inbto a good program each year.

How many championships do they have with the one and done model? Is it really superior to a Villanova model that is less reliant on one and dones?

This.

If he proves he can shoot consistently from mid-range, he'll be a one and done. He's got crazy athleticism and a force around the basket.

Just needs to hone his SF game.

ETA:

I think it'll be 2 years though. He seems to enjoy hard work and might not just jump right away.

He could always grow another two inches in the next year. If that's the case he will definitely be a one and done, imo.

If not I agree with the rest of your post. I think he's a two year guy at this point. Just very raw.
Also, sometimes logic says some guys shouldn't go to the draft early but still do so (Sampson). So we can sit here at keyboards talking skills and measurables all day but it's mostly going to come down to how badly EW wants to go pro no matter how 'ready' he is.

I wouldnt expect to land another class like this one next season, it will be a much more foundation-type class with 4 year players mostly. I wouldn't be shocked, but would be slightly surprised if we signed more than 1 or 2 Top 100 players.

Some people need to understand we had some nice luck with this year's class in more ways than one. Reid's girlfriend playing basketball here. Williams' arrest and everyone but us for the most part, backed off. Smart right here in baton rouge area.

Days was more of an outright pull, but despite being in Gainesville, FL, UF for some reason did not offer, so that certainly helped a little. That didnt just help us though, that helped everyone else recruiting him, and that was a very impressive pull by Wade.

I would much rather go to the Villanova model, which is really keeping a minimal amount of "true" bigs on the team and recruiting guys who can shoot 3's.

Among Villanova's 8-man rotation this past season, only 1 of those guys, Cosby-Roundtree, who averaged JUST 11 minutes a game, couldn't shoot the 3. They routinely played SEVEN guys who could shoot the 3, and the worst of that bunch was Paschall who shot 35.6% from 3, that's just crazy.

When you can create that kind of spacing on offense because everyone you put on the floor most of the time can shoot the 3, you're extremely tough to keep up with.

Omari Spellmen, their 6'9, 260 pound "center" (really power forward), shot 43.3% from 3 and took 3.8 3's a game.

Villanova didnt have a single player over 6'9 on their roster.

We need more shooters, and more guys who can just shoot it in general. Reath getting more of a 3 point look this past year even really helped his game out.

Have you seen him play. He can do all those things now brother. Kid is unreal talent whom will be here one year and gone first round.

Yes I've seen lots of film on him, 90% of his game is effort, good athleticism and a willingness to put his body on the line in any situation all while being a very violent dunker. Not a lot of it is being a ball handler or shooter. Can he kind of handle the ball? Yeah, but nothing like a wing would be required to do. Can he shoot a 3? He's capable, but it's not really a part of his arsenal. He did shoot it very well on the EYBL circuit last year, but that was also a really small sample size (29 threes in 21 games).

From a pure skills standpoint, Reid is much more advanced than Williams. Which is why he is considered a 1 and done 1st rounder. Williams has him EASILY beat in effort and pure athleticism though.

That alone will have him make an impact as a freshman. Just like with Rachal, it will be fun to watch the rest of the skills develop.

Agreed, you can be a big impact player in college with great effort and some athleticism. Doesn't translate to the NBA so much, but that's why you hone in your skills in college and develop things.
