All signs pointed to this year being a big year based on the talent returning from last year. With a big loss of seniors plus draft eligible juniors, what are realistic expectations for next year?

I thought this year would be a great year for the Tigers, unless LSU gets better oline play I don't see much for next year. Hard for the defense to get much better.

Honestly, after this year I am very cautious to say next year will be a "big year".

BYU (in Houston) W
Chattanooga W
@ Miss St. W
Syracuse W
Troy W
I think we go 1-2 between @ Florida, Auburn, and @ Ole Miss
@Alabama L
I think we go 1-1 between Arkansas and @ Tennessee
Texas A&M W

I think we'll cruise to 5-0 or 6-0, which will get us into the top 10 and expectations will be high. Then we'll come back down to Earth and finish with 3 or 4 losses.

This is a great year for the tigers. We're getting a new coach. Regardless of who it is, we know we'll be seeing a new offense. This year gave us hope for the future.

If I'm looking at each unit:

QB - same
RB - worse
WR - worse
OL - same
TE - worse

DL - better
LB - worse
DB - same

2016 was definitely the year to make a run. There's a lot of talent on the roster so I think the 2017 team will be competitive. Should be 5-0 going to Florida and 7-1 going into Bama.

Season will be defined by Arkansas, at Tenn, and A&M.

I've been completely banking on this year. Had pretty high expectations. Expected us to finally beat Bama, win the SEC championship and go on to the playoffs.

Next year I will have no expectations other than to beat our cupcakes and at least a few conference opponents.

Not going to invest my emotions over something I have no control over. It's just kids playing a game.

do you disagree?

I'm basing it on the number of snaps the team is losing at each position.

eta. save your breath if you're going to mention HS accolades or practice reports

Hate to be honest but unless the QB and OL are different or show great improvement, I cannot see anything better than 9-3.

Have to win 3 out of 5 SEC road games to be better than 9-3. I just don't see it unless there are significant offensive changes.

Well said. It's not easy to do, but once done, it's a life changer.

I'm saying 9-3 or 8-4 season right now, but if we can get Herman, and he can bring out the potential in Scott, or we can get Jimbo, and he can bring out the potential in Harris, LSU could be looking at a 10-2/11-1 season.

If Wisconsin can keep having great defense after losing so much of their front 7, LSU should be able to too with Aranda.

We have the talent, we just need somebody with the X's and O's on offense to put it together.

We lose A LOT. Plus there are just too many variables concerning the coaching staff to set any reasonable expectations at the point

Seems like a pretty reasonable prediction. I'll hope for more like always, but this is about my expectation.

QB- agree
RB- eh, it's tough to say we don't drop off after losing Fournette, but with Fournette being injured for the entire year, I don't see too big of a drop off here.
WR- agree
OL- agree
TE- who do we lose? Jeter? I think we have some talented young guys at TE. I'm going to say same here.

DL- agree
LB- agree
DB- no way you can say this stays the same. We lose White and Adams, our two best DBs. We will still be talented, but there will be a drop off.

Win the SEC West. That should be our expectation and objective every year.

We lose Desean Smith. He barely got any playing time most of his career because Miles refused to play the type of offense that would feature a receiving TE at all. He's probably mostly forgotten about, but I think he's talented. He started to get featured more once Ensminger took over.

I guess it's probably kind of minor in terms of overall team talent though.
