You don't even have to be a #2 or do it for very long. Current Bucs and former Saints/Tulane QB Ryan Griffin is a prime example. Seems to impress coaches but probably never had the talent to start. Now he has made 8 mil and is fully vested for pension with a ring.
Gets even better for someone like Chase Daniel.

He's a smart scrappy guy. I hope he stays in the league for years and retires with a few million. The more LSU QBs in the league the better for recruiting.
