Why not shite on him he set us lower than we have been in 20 years. Even Miles sustained more success. Ed was a program destroyer after 19. He got lucky. Yaw, Yaw Football

Is this the game where Ed let his gf's son coach defense
Posted on 12/15/22 at 8:29 pm to tigersbb
Nope, Ed deserves all the shite he gets and more for running the program into the dirt.

This.. a large portion of “fans” on here are complete ungrateful pieces of trash. LSU has won 4 natties in 130 years of playing football. He brought us one of those. He doesn’t deserve 1/4 of the shite these clock punchers give him

Should have just fired him after 2019 when it was clear his mind was elsewhere

What are you talking about? LSU didn’t play Miss St in 2020.

Orgeron earned the right to be shite on.
After he had finally rid himself of Aranda’s pussy 3-4 defense he was going to show the world his great football mind and run a mix of an early 90’s Miami/00’s USC defensive monster to devastating effect.
The result was the Pirate took a bum who would be benched a few weeks later and set an SEC all time record. Mike Leach was never certain Big Foot existed. But I bet he thought it was a possibility he lived in Baton Rouge after meeting Orgeron

We could not defend the pass anywhere. Especially deep to the right. Painful, I would have just camped a guy out down there.

Everything in 2020 has a big FAT asterisk next to it. Seeing Tiger Stadium only about 5-10% full sucked. Nothing was normal, and there were opt-outs among good players. Sorry Bama, but that “national title” is one with a big FAT asterisk too!

I think Coach O and Pelini should have been fired on the spot after that game.
Yeah real rational to fire the reigning national champion coach at the time….

The reigning national champion coach deciding he was going to become involved in the actual onfield approach/strategy rather than just staying out of the way like he did in 18 and 19 was THE singular reason for the debacle that day and the 2 years of .500 football LSU would play thereafter.
Blame Pelini all you want. But he was hired to run Ed's defense. Not his own. And Ed wanted the "Pete Carroll" USC defense. He didn't consider that he may not quite have the personnel to effectively run that defense or that offensive strategy had changed significantly since 2003. His defense was going to look like USC's defense of (nearly) 20 years ago. The result was an LSU defense that had absolutely no idea what they were doing and no thought of trying to adjust. One that would be ranked almost at the bottom of the NATION in total defense.
ALL Ed had to do was hire great coordinators and stay out of the way, and let them do what they did well. He's still the HC at LSU if he does that. But he couldn't. He was the national COY which was proof he knew what he was doing. So he hires two coordinators with ZERO market demand to replace the two who left for promotions. The OC was a guy no one else in football wanted. But he fit Ed's criteria of not being a young hot shot coach who might leave for a bigger job if he had great success at LSU. The DC was likewise a guy no one else in football wanted. But he was really good in the early/mid 2000's. And when the HC had a desire to run an early/mid 2000's defense who better to hire?

Just add LSU football to the list of reasons why 2020 was the worst year in history.

Theoretically that is true. But the reality I believe is this
Any established good coordinator OR the “next big thing” type coordinator knew what O really was and that the train could come off the tracks at any time. They weren’t going to let their careers get derailed by O. I never thought Freeman or Nielsen were ever coming here regardless of the media reports. I think they both played LSU.
The only “name” guy that was hired that was not washed up or a buddy of his was Canada and we know how that turned out. Not to mention, it was rumored to be a forced hire. I think O always wanted E, and only E, to be his OC.
Brady was by all accounts an Ensminger thing that O allowed because he trusted E. And Brady, at the time, had nothing to lose.

Everyone remembers how bad the pass defense was but…..no one talks about how idiotic the substitutions were on offense. If you watch the game, every 3rd, 5th and 7th series…..Mickey Joseph subs out the entire skill position talent. T.Marshall benched for Koy Moore. Arik Gilbert benched for a walk-on.
The worst personnel management of all time. It also cost us the Missouri game.

The entire possession after halftime (over a 5min drive), Terrace Marshall is on the bench because it just happened to be our 5th possession of the game. We ended up getting stopped in the redzone and didnt score a TD while our best WR and TE were on the bench.

3rd series of the game wasted. 3 and out. Trey Palmer drops a pass even though Marshall was shredding the defense. Just happened to be the 3rd series of the game and Mickey predetermined subs to keep his true freshmen happy.
