ESPN UK - can't find the video on US website

Mitchell, Trout on very different baseball journeys

Pedro Gomez tells the story of Jared Mitchell, who was drafted right before the Angels' top two picks in the 2009 draft, one of whom was Mike Trout.

Knew Jared since he was 5. Great guy. Wish things would have turned out better for him at the next level, but glad he still seems to be doing what he enjoys.

I watch Jared play minor league ball here in Texas for the Sugar Land Skeeters. Hes still fast as hell out in center. If anyone is in the Houston area I highly recommend going out to Sugar Land for a game. Tickets are on $14 for general admission.

Have some great memories of his performance in 2009. He had a cannon arm in right field and some really disciplined ABs.

Why did he get released from the reds in 2017? It looked like he was doing really well at the time of his release.

He hit the hardest ball I’ve ever had hit off of me. Off the bat, I swear it was a line drive out right to the SS. By the time I turned around it was knocking the left center wall down. Saw him several times after that and would bring it up and laugh and say how is that even possible. Got a chance to play against him again 2 years ago when he was with York in the Atlantic League, and hit him in the kneecap. Absolutely not on purpose, just got away from me. He looked at me like dude wtf it’s spring training. I told him sorry buddy I have waited 10 years for that.

He’s always been one of those guys with an infectious personality and someone that is easy to root for. The Indy ball route is tough, but I won’t be surprised if somebody else gives him a chance.
