FIFY

If LSU or Bama makes the title game this coming season, sure any other team would be hard pressed to beat them. However, a scenario could play out where neither makes the national championship (playing in the SEC, this is very possible).

Whose prediction?

Ivan Maisel. One dude.

Every other publication I've seen so far besides him has us not only preseason #1, but winning the national championship. Take it for what it's worth.

Analyst Ed Cunningham just said on College Football Live LSU won't even make the National Championship because Bama will win the SEC.

Didn't ESPN get the memo, Michael Dyer left Oregon to follow Gus Calzone.

Yeah...... No. If USC is suppose to be as good as advertised this year Oregon will not be playing in the NC. I seriously doubt if anyone from the PAC12 will get in, but if anyone does it will be USC.

But what about SoCal's annual loss to an unranked team who's a 35 point underdog? N/m, I'm sure mighty Notre Dame with their stable of QBs will bring their SOS waaaaayy up.

imo Oregon is in for a down year. I think they are going to be very overrated. Losing James and Thomas is going to hurt

The sport isn't broken. It doesn't need ESPN's paternalistic meddling nor its superficial analysis. Just air the damn games.

I really wish a network would come along & give ESPN honest competition in the sports market. ESPN is really washed up. I can't stand to hear them speak of any team I like, they really strike a nerve on LSU & Saints topics. They just constantly hate on Louisiana teams for some reason.
Go frick yourselves ESPN, I would rather listen to Fletch locally here in Shreveport

OK, so this douche's argument is that Oregon returns a lot of players on defense, like LSU, but, and it's a BUT as big as Oprah's, Oregon is NOT LSU when it comes to defense.

Let's see, LSU was #2 in both scoring and total defense last season.

The Ducks were #52 and #67 respectively.

I don't care who they have coming back. They will not have a defense worth being concerned about. If they're lucky, they'll crack the top 50 in one of the aforementioned categories.

I wasn't criticizing you for posting the information. At all. I've just grown unspeakably weary of ESPN's college football coverage over the last few years. I've been an unnaturally ardent college football fan since I enrolled at LSU in 1994. As such, I've devoted untold hours to watching ESPN. In the late 1990's and early part of this decade, their CFB programming seemed both honest and refreshing. Now, it's trite and hackneyed. They are less interested in reporting on the sport and more interested in advancing whatever muckraking agenda appeals to them at any given moment

Change "1994" to "1995" and you have my thoughts exactly. I remember when ESPN used to cover the actual sport and not the people playing the sport. It went from being the Nightline to the 20/20 of sports.

Agreed! And LSU would be favored vs. Oregon. I will hope all year that LSU and USC meet in the NCG.

I don't think Oregon will miss James or Thomas quite honestly. Bennett is better than Thomas at QB and Barner,Thomas and the other couple of backs they have will make the James loss less important. Thomas is basically a better, faster version of James. The key to me is that they'll be more experienced and better at WR and on Defense and that's why I think they can beat USC. USC will be favored and more talented but their LBs wil get tested seriously in both speed and depth. USC is also very young at LB and that can lead to them missing assignments on those sweeps. Oregon can beat USC.

I don't think Oregon would beat LSU or Bama. Both are just too physical on both lines for Oregon. Auburn manhandled the Oregon OL with basically just Fairley and we did worse to them last year. On offense we'd eventually be able to slam it down their throats just like last year. People will say, well you guys lost Randle but Randle wasn't the wr that hurt Oregon last year, it was Beckham with his speed and quickness. Randle just got the touchdowns. If we had an off night and Oregon played very well they could beat us but it would take an almost complete collapse by our 2 lines. Not happening.

Oregon is going to be a lot better. Lot's of experience, size and talent up front. More than any chip team and by a wide margin. I cant say I'd pick oregon over LSU but that Oregon is better.

I don't think anyone is saying Oregon won't be better or have a good team, but BCS Title game worthy? Until you guys field a defense that can stop somebody, about all you can clamor for is the occasional PAC-12 title.
