ESPN article about Al Woods
LINK

First, had ZERO clue Al Woods was still in the league. If my memory serves me correctly, he was "so-so" while at LSU after coming in with high expectations. Good for him to stick in the league this long.

Second, he is 30. I feel really old now...

We didn't really play a true NT when he was here, which is his natural position.

I didn't either. Knew he made it, but didn't know he was still a viable contributor.

He was here while we had a TON of Dline bodies during Miles' tenure. He played often and well, but wasn't as well known as the other big names.

Then he has a few years left.

He was a great kid when we were recruiting him out of Elton HS. Solid family support and background. Parents were great people too. He will be successful outside of football, no doubt.

Will never forget looking at the mock drafts his soph year and seeing him as a top 15 pick. I was like...

Yeah he was a bust for college expectations but he did what others don't and that is continuing to work hard to make a career and not let doubters kill your dream of the NFL. I got pulled over for speeding in Elton a week after his commitment and I got out of it by telling the officer that I was excited to get him. Literally my knowledge of him coming from that town got me out of a ticket that day. The officer just wanted to talk football for five minutes and let me go.

Kenny Davidson ended up as a starter in Pittsburg after being a part time player at LSU. Sometimes it takes a fresh start and a new situation.

re: ESPN article about Al Woods
I was in a fedex store in Nashville and Al commented on my phone number when I gave it to the clerk. He said he was from Louisiana too. I felt like a dumb arse because when I asked him why he had moved to Nashville and he said "to play football" I didn't put 2 and 2 together. Even after he told me his name I didn't remember him having played for LSU for a minute or two. If he had just intoduced himself as Barkevious Mingo's brother we could have spared a lot of confusion.

He was a nice guy, though.

Met him in a mall in Nashville last year. Dude is massive and in great shape. He was a very nice and approachable guy.

I remember an article when he was being recruited about what would you buy with your first NFL check or something along those lines. His answer was a gooseneck livestock trailer for hauling cows. Good to see him living both of his dreams.

Wow. I thought he was out of the league a long time ago.

He had a good senior year as a starter for LSU in 2009. It was good enough to get him drafted pretty high by the Saints.

Very cool story, grew up right down the road from this guy. I thought he would be an excellent DT prospect. Goes to show you what hard work and determination can do for you. Never give up man! There's always room for a guy who works hard on the team. He could have easily walked away long ago. Good for you Al Woods!

Before you feel too old, I remember playing against his dad in HS basketball. He was very good.
