There was a moment in the LSU vs. Vandy basketball game yesterday, when I had to back up and watch a certain portion to confirm whether I heard correctly.
Sure enough, it was when Darious Days went vertical near the goal and was undercut by a Vandy player that resulted in Days hitting the floor and using his hands to break his fall.
One of the ESPN announcers commented that Black basketball players hate it when they jump high and fall where they have to use their hands to break the fall. Now, I admit I am not quoting him verbatim, but he 100% used the phrase "Black basketball players". Why would he even have to inject the color of a player in his statement? I thought it extremely odd!

White players don't mind using their hands to break falls, I guess because they can't jump as high. I don't know, because I didn't play basketball.

It is a natural reaction to stop the fall.

I can confirm I don’t like to jump high and then fall. I will try to use my hands to break my fall though.

I don't watch enough basketball to know if that's accurate. But if it is, why do we have to pretend that there are no differences between different groups of people?

I heard that also! I thought surely he didn’t say what I think he said.

I heard it too. Went back and replayed it and think that he said “blocked.”

I also heard one say that vandy played team offensive basketball whereas LSU played individual offensive basketball.

Wouldn't make any sense that he would have said black.

That would make sense. Sounded like "black" at the time to me too. Honestly that commentator was annoying and just said a bunch of stuff that was out of left field.

. I heard that for sure but didn’t go back to confirm. I thought I had just heard it wrong. As far as why, I think he just jumbled the words because even if he intended to say that it makes no sense.

Race is profiled more on ESPN than at a NAACP meeting.

I heard that, too, but thought..surely that’s not what he said! If so, I can’t imagine him not receiving backlash. What an asinine comment.

Ah, that makes a hell of a lot more sense.

I heard the same, but decided not to pay it any mind. I just ignore those comments and move on. No need to allow that stuff to trigger me. Only thought I had was, I sure hope the announcer that said it was black
