Eric Reyzelman featured in BA article on players having breakout summers..
in Cape Cod league.

Article is behind a paywall but Eric retweeted his portion on twitter. I'll link that: Twitter link

Here's a bit of it though: "Struck out 22 batters in 12.2 innings for Harwich. His fastball can get up to 96-97 mph and he throws it from a low slot, adding some deception. After what he's done this summer, it's reasonable to expect that he will be able to jump into an important role next spring for the Tigers."

Sounds like closer material if he doesn't try for a starting gig.

As long as he can stay healthy, he sounds like he’s got good stuff.

Sounds more like he is shaping up to be a Friday night type of guy.

And ill be the first in line to eat crow if he’s the same guy for the season.

Was scared to death about his ERA and BB numbers at San Fran. Glad that JJ season the potential and is worth the gamble

His ERA still concerns me. I am very aware it's not the end all be all, but still. Glad he is having a good summer. We will need pitchers to step up if we are going to make a run at a NC next year.

That would be awesome. I just thought closer because he didn't pitch many innings and seemed like he was pitching only one or two at a time and having a high K rate.

If he can be an option as starter I would try that first
You can figure out the back end later
Closer is ideally someone that you can use multiple times on a weekend and Fontenot really struggled that second time
Try Fontenot as a starter as well

Then you can piece together the bullpen

Early in SEC series last year we had trouble even getting to Fontenot

39.7% K rate
6.8% BB rate
.32 Wild (HBP+WP+BB divided by IP)

50% K rate first time through the order.

Slash line each time through the order. (Very small sample size)
.091/.167/.121 (36 PA)
.320/.393/.440 (28 PA)
.333/.333/.556 (9 PA)

He probably didn’t pitch much during the season because he was so unreliable with control, and they aren’t going to dog his arm this summer so he’s not going to be throwing 8 innings. If he keeps these numbers up he’s a Friday night guy, but the numbers project provides that has him having a 50% k rate the first time through the order doesn’t make a closer gig sound crazy.

Reyzelman's numbers in 2021 are made all the more impressive by the fact that he didn't debut until the 12th game of the Mariners season. He wasted no time catching up, striking out hitters in droves and earning a spot in the rotation upon entry.

He had a hiccup with his surgery so he was largely unavailable and uncomfortable this past season.

He's performing really well, and I think his potential is endless - he really hasn't played much high school or college ball at all.

I am not saying he can't make a quality starter, but his stuff could easily make him a valuable asset from the pen
