Encouraging tidbit from the Les Miles show last night

I was listening to it on the way home from work last night and I picked up on what I think was legit information from Les Miles.
The reason I think it was legit is because a young girl from Denton called in and melted Les's Heart by asking about how his summer was. Naturally Les got a chance to talk about his family, which you really can tell is the biggest part of his life (Great thing!). After that question she asked. What was the most important thing you practiced on Offense, Defense, and Special teams this fall.
Here is the good part. For offense, Les said they have practiced the pass much more this fall in order to achieve more of a balance on Offense. You really got the feeling that it wasn't a run around answer either.
On defense, the emphasis was pass rushing with 4 or 5 guys. On special teams the emphasis was consistency.
I know this has probably been mentioned, but wanted to reiterate that the pass is at least a priority in practice. This bodes well for a good year in my mind.

I sure hope so bc I find more excitement watching paint dry than watching LSUs offense the past 2 years.

Wait, you found the 2013 offense boring?

Last year I totally understand...
But Mett, Hill, OBJ, and Landry bored you?

Shhhhh, guys. Just let the children play.

Some folks just like to pretend this season never happened so they can still go on about how the LSU offense under Miles will never pass the ball effectively.

Yep... no need to let facts get in the way of whatever false narrative we play out in our minds...

Then football is not the sport for you. 2013 was one of the most exciting pass rush combo I have seen in college.

It's good to kick out the best and the worst to get a true read on what we average. So do that and decide for yourself.

That is good to hear. The season can not get here fast enough!

What the offense averages in other years does not equal that Miles is incapable of ever having an effective passing game though.
People actually believe that Miles does not want to ever air it out. That 2013 season shows that when he has a QB that is capable he is more than willing to open it up.

i was encouraged that he added Donte Jackson's name to the list of players we'll see returning punts.

thank you as I find these tidbits encouraging indeed. there is a point where coaching is not the reason for lack of success. at LSU, everybody demands excellence and that's how it should be. our lack of achieving this high benchmark is almost always blamed on the coaches. yes, they have a hell of a lot to do with it but there are other factors that are probably more important. the biggest is the experienced talent on the field. recruiting must "dovetail" with needs. this requires signing the right player in the right year and also requires some of your best players to stay for their senior year.
no one can predict players declaring early for the draft and no one can predict exactly which players will be upper level players so there is much dissonance on college football teams that the coaches do not control. a coach cannot "make silk out of a sow's ear" as they say.
it is my hope that our QB situation was one of bad luck (starting last year with no experience and questionable talent) and will be greatly improved this year. also, our recruiting at the DL and LB position seemed to be the two coaches fault that are no longer at LSU so I think our front 7 will improve.
lastly, one thing the real bashers of LSU football don't take into account is the kids themselves. QB's and others sign with a school and if they don't win the position they leave the school. also, the recruits KNOW what schools take what positions so if LSU signs a big DL target, other prospects shy away. this awareness rarely existed before social media and instant news sources.

If they can get pressure with just 4 or 5 guys, with our secondary, we will have a lot of shutouts.

That's some real in depth information.
The only thing he could have said at a higher level would have been "practicing offense".

Agreed,
If Harris to Dupree/Dural/Quinn/Diarse/Chark/Johnson/Smith/Washington/Gordon becomes even SOMEWHAT of a downfield threat, it will make the running game even MORE effective.
Then you got draws, swing passes, misdirections to the TEs, screens, etc.
Not to mention we have absolute beasts for fullbacks !!!

I know its not deep, but looking at last years offense, particularly the wide receivers (drops and off timing and route running), the QB's (lack of timing not accurate), the o-line pass blocking (pressure on the QB early) it really appeared to me that they didn't give it enough time or diligent effort through practice.

Quietly adding Daphane to the list of posters to ignore.
