He must have really destroyed his knee to end his career at such a young age. He was the reason that I sort of started rooting for the Texans as my 2nd favorite NFL team.

Versatile career at LSU and started the NFL with a bang. I usually try not to act the fool around celebrities/athletes but saw him at a Rockets game shortly before his injury and had to yell out 'Double D!' and he gave me a big smile and point.

He was a straight stud that nobody but LSU fans knew about really, until he showed out for the country his rookie year. Double D!

And Josh Reed, too, I would assume.

when I first caught a glimpse of guice as a freshman, my exact thought was I hadn't seen anyone run as hard and keep churning after contact since DD

Double D was awesome all around. I loved him returning punts.

I wouldn't know because someone had took out a telephone pole by the Monroe ABC station and there was no signal until the 4th quarter.

What is sad is there is a whole generation of fans out there that have never seen LSU do anything other than crash the ball right into a 8 or 9 man front. There was a time LSU could rip off big chunks of yardage via the forward pass.

I do remember Devery as rb, not that play getting stuffed. He actually had the highest ypc average albeit on many fewer carries. He was always just an ankle tackle away from breaking a big run.

Was this because of icy conditions?

I know it snowed at my parents place in Walker the day after. I was in Kentucky at the time.

Great RB! That game he had against Illinois was very memorable. I have an LSU poster signed by him hanging in my garage.

Before I drank the kool-aid and became a shitty USL/ULL/Little Bro, he was my favorite player.
