He never should have moved out of it.

Has to.

He needs to be in the bullpen, but this team is in dire need of a leader on the mound to start a game.

Why not have chance to use him twice on a weekend . If he starts he only gets on pe appearance.

Agree 100%

This team simply didn't have that luxury and it's hard to even make a reasonable argument otherwise.

I said it from the beginning, some people just aren't smart. They simply don't recognize that the move being good for Hess doesn't mean it's good for the team.

He also may not pitch a meaningful inning from the pen.

Your question has a very obvious answer. He can have a bigger impact as a starter all things considered.

Look at the results when he hasn't pitched. At Mizzou we won in a blowout. Blew through our pen, and lost the series (although blowing through the pen was more a result of his injury).

Florida - got absolutely drummed.

Ole Miss - Hess had to come in early to save the Friday game. Had to extend, and ended up being done for the weekend, so we only got him once.

Arky- well you see it.

Hess wasn't the most consistent pitcher. He wasn't always great, but when he was we had a chance to beat anybody. Unless Henry and Hill were healthy and still dealing, Hess is more valuable to this team as a starter.

To answer the OP, I don't see the move happening. The Hess move was so illogical, that I think it happened because Hess requested it and Mainieri had promised him that he could make the decision.

If we have no pitchers that can get the game to him close then having him twice in a weekend will never happen.
