Does anybody remember staying up late to watch Boise State beat Hawaii in 2003

I remember hearing one of ESPN’s BCS gurus say he ran the numbers and if Boise State beats Hawaii, the loss will weaken USC’s SOS just enough for LSU to jump them to number two in the final BCS rankings. The game was played in Hawaii and it must have been 2 AM and I’m watching the game with high intensity. Of course Boise State wins and the rest is history.

Pittsburgh gets a lot of credit for LSU’s 2007 season by beating West Virgina but Boise State should get some love for 2003 because they did help LSU out.

I remember being in Atlanta and all the LSU fans going crazy over Syracuse crushing Notre Dame while waiting for the SEC Championship game to start.

We rolled Georgia that night. Daniels and CWebb were dominant.

Yes, I bet a parley on Boise St and the over. I almost wrecked my car the next day when they announced on the radio that LSU would be playing for the National Championship. Ran right through a red light(Made it through safely though). Good times.

Should've been irrelevant. It should've been LSU and USC playing for it all.

Ridiculous that a team that got crushed 35-7 in their conference championship game got to play for the NC. That season was the beginning of the end for the short-lived BCS.

I did that.

After the BCS rankings came out and Hawaii's loss to Boise State lowered Southern Cal's strength of schedule just enough for LSU to move up to #2, I sent the Boise State head coach, Dan Hawkins, a poinsettia plant (it was a couple of weeks before Christmas) with a card thanking him for beating Hawaii. He didn't reply.

I believe the Washington-Washington State game that night and result also lowered USC's SOS to drop them in BCS points.

Yep, I do remember. It was similar but less surprising than what happened in 2007. We went into that night not expecting anything after losing to Arky the week before, and by midnight found ourselves likely going to the 'ship!

Everyone remembers #2 W. Virginia losing that night, but #1 Missouri lost earlier that day (really? Mizzou was actually #1? )

Virginia Tech was ahead of us but no one could forget that although both had the same record, we had beaten the crap out of them earlier in the season (I remember their QB Sean Glennon saying in an interview after the final BCS was announced and LSU had bypassed VT, "I guess 48-7 is hard to forget").

Georgia was also ranked ahead of us the week before, but then we beat Tennessee for the SEC championship.

Kansas was also ahead of us the week before, but they're...well, they're KANSAS.

Ah...a glorious night indeed. Maybe we'll have one again in the next decade. Please?

From a hotel bar in Atlanta, after the SEC championship game. The LSU crowd was even louder than we were in the dome beating Georgia.

Literally my worst college football memory. I remember getting home from our 2nd round loss to Barbe and my dad looking upset and telling me that Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State. Needless to say I did not sleep well that night. 1/9 was just a formality at that point.
