Do you think LSU's BOS regrets not bringing Saban Back?

It has been a long time rumor that when Saban was leaving the NFL, he contacted LSU about the position, and LSU said thanks but no thanks. Do you think BOS regrets this at all. Don't get me wrong, firing a coach who went 10-2 would have been a PR nightmare. It would have took some balls, but with what Saban has become, I think it would be hard not to regret it. If Les had gone 8-4 that year, it may have been easier to consider.

Saban didn't decide 100% to leave the NFL until Alabama contacted him. So you're spreading a lie.

Probably no more than they regret turning down Bill Walsh when he wanted to come out of retirement to coach LSU with Mike Ditka as D cord and Jerry Rice as O cord...

Partially true. Saban was set to come back the next season when Miles was leaving for Michigan. We backed into the title, and the rest is history.

I don't know the truth of any of it. But I do remember Jimmy Ott reporting on his show that he was hearing Saban was asking around about getting the LSU job back. This was PRIOR to any talk about Alabama and prior to any talk about Les being on shaky ground. Ott was blasted for it but he stuck to his guns and said he was hearing from people inside the administration that Saban wasn't happy in the NFL and wanted to come back, but they couldn't get rid of Miles. I thought Ott was making a poor attempt at getting a conversation going and getting callers. Months later we have Saban taking the Alabama job.

I'm not saying that you're making stuff up... but a lot of this sounds like rumors of rumors. We're all guilty of that, myself included.

_____

I'll leave this here (though I'm sure to be bum rushed by some of the people on this board ) and these are the facts that I know of:

-When Saben's NFL career was drawing to an obvious end, a couple BOS/TAF "bigwigs" visited him (via a private jet) in Florida.

-According to someone who was seeing a member of Saben's family at the time (and I have no reason to believe she would just make this up) they discussed Saben's possible return to LSU.

Those are all the facts as I believe them to be.

_____

Now, I've heard the "insider rumors" that Saben wanted to come back, he loved LSU, but that some big money people in the TAF were still sore with him because of the way he left and didn't coach that bowl game.

Is that shite true? Who really knows...

Either way, he's in Bama, Les is here, and no amount of rumor/speculation talk is going to change that.
