O is looking in the portal for a LB but unless it’s a difference maker like Henry To’oto’o’ from Tennessee I don’t see the point of just adding another warm body when we need to be stacking OL. We only need 2 starting LB and we lose all 5 starting OL free this coming season. I think we can find 2 quality starters out of Bug Strong, Baskerville, Clark, Josh White, Sampah and Penn. I’d put money on Strong being the day 1 starter at MLB and then Baskerville and Clark would have first shot at WLB.

I trust the staff to go after the best player possible and at the position they think is in most need.

Some additional talent couldn’t hurt that Competition

Lose Cox and his backup Thornton transferred out. No idea who was 3rd team but they obviously feel help is needed there.

Never have too much depth in what was a weak position last season

Bringing in anyone with experience is huge.

I'd rather take a LB that can start on day one and impact a season (even if it is just one season) than "stack bodies" at OL who the staff really doesn't think are good enough to play at LSU.

I doubt you are going to find any really go lineman who are transferring just so they can sit the bench and wait their turn at LSU. They want to play now. Now, if there are some HS OL you really like that is a different discussion. I can understand giving them the scholarship over a 1 year transfer at LB.

Did you *watch* this team last year? There were times when it seemed like the only people on the field for our defense were the DL, the CBs, and Jabril Cox. Well, cox is gone. We are ABSOLUTELY in need of LBs. LB and safety were by FAR the biggest weaknesses of our team last season.

If we go after anyone in the portal LB is a good choice. It's a position of immediate need for us with our best LB from last season leaving (Cox) and the remaining ones either not having much experience or not playing well last year.

I know Strong is expected to compete for a starting position, but it probably wouldn't hurt to add someone else.

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to go after an offensive lineman too, but that's not an immediate need for next season due to all of the starters returning. It would be great to pick up a guy with multiple years of eligibility left though.

After that Safety is the only other position where taking a transfer would make a lot of sense, or CB if the Ricks rumors end up being true.

It is going to be very tough to find a o lineman willing to transfer to a team that all 5 o lineman are returning on and I believe since the coaches were able to get those guys to return it affords them the ability to go get some guys that will strengthen other positions of need.

We need to develop the linemen we have first. That should be the #1 priority. Unfortunately returning the whole line is going to leave game reps far and few between barring injury.

The very last thing we want is OL from the transfer portal. We are losing our whole offensive starting five after next season. THAT's when we should go get one or two from the portal.

I'll say this, the three highly rated LBers from last year's recruiting class - Sampah (0.9558), White (0.9359) and Webb (0.9725) must not be ready yet. That's some high rated guys for three of them to not be ready by year two.

Considering Clark is not a starting caliber LB, we need a difference maker there
