the difference is that johnny jones was given his job, for falling on the sword for Daddy Dale , and will wade was given his for post performances , with a hope for improvement. Johnny jones's tensure was assured years ago.

Jones wouldn't call a timeout if the other team was on a 12-0 run if his life depending on it. It was infuriating.
He just had this ho-hum look on his face.
Edit: And Wade has his team playing like dogs...with fight and determination. Our f'ing center is 6'6 and is a monster on the boards

Poor Johnny, it really wasn't his fault. Sure he wanted this job, it was his dream job...but he was not qualified for it and would never have gotten it if not for confluence of circumstances all coming together at once.
1) One the Dale Brown Mafia - Dale, Collis and other former players were putting tremendous pressure and had been for years to hire Johnny. In truth, deep down I think they probably really knew he probably was not the best choice....but everybody liked Johnny, they wanted this for him and it gave them a link back to past glory.
2) We had a weak AD who did not have much credibility or respect in the business IMHO and just didn't have the contacts, initiative or instincts to find and attract a good coach. And he was happy to make a lazy, easy choice.
3)Most of the fan base did not GAF about LSU hoops and capitulating to the mafia brought little resistance, many of the folks who still cared about hoops were the Dale Brown folks and that is the guy they wanted.
Thankfully, Alleva let Nunez handle the next hoops hiring and Nunez subsequently made what Alleva calls the worst mistake of his career in hiring WW - only because he disasterously handled the situation when it first came public.
