How many bases did Bryant steal this weekend?

CPM addressed this, and said most of the problem is with pitchers, not the catcher.

Definitely an area of concern.

As it stands now, every single or walk is basically a double.

Pitcher, catcher --- whoever --- hopefully they get it figured out soon.

They were stealing 3rd also.

Pitchers were definitely taking too long to deliver.

It's also very hard to throw someone out if the pitcher doesn't throw a strike.

I saw multiple extra bases this weekend. Looked a lot like perfect calls for the steals (we were throwing offspeed pitches) and some were just misplays by the catcher

I have to agree, LSU pitchers across the board did a poor job of holding runners this weekend. Bryant base runners were getting huge jumps and Mathis didn't have a prayer to throw any of them out.

Definitely the pitchers fault. Mathis made a quick, perfect throw and wasn’t
close to getting the runner

I think Mathis is doing an admirable job defensively and he's hitting some balls hard at the plate. My one knock on him (which isn't much of a knock) is that he takes forever to signal pitches with a runner on 2nd base. Again, this is minor in the grand scheme of things, but it really slows the game down. Anyone else notice this?

This is BS from PM. I played College baseball and Mathis has poor form when throwing to second. I was thinking this while watching him attempt to throw out a base runner. He has at least 1 seconds worth of fundamental improvements that can be made with his delivery to second base. He was a long delivery. The ball should come right up to his right ear after pivoting out of his squat and released. I’m not saying that the pitchers can’t improve but Mathis surely has some fundemental work that can be done to better his times.

Watch the video of the other catcher throwing out a LSU runner vs Mathis. I think the call that got overturned on replay was one specific where I watched the other catchers form and noticed how much faster he came out of his stance and how the ball went directly next to his ear.

I agree.

Both need to improve.

Early in the season so it will be a teaching point for all the players.

Plus, no one on this board has actually seen our starting catcher make a throw to 2nd in a college game so lets not get too excited.
