Is this a snap count thing, or just plain luck. It usually happened after a check and on the 2nd clap they'd perfectly time the snap. It got them 2 of their 5 sacks imho.

Yes absolutely. Made a point to bring up the snap count had to be adjusted at half and it appears they did. Tip your cap on those and also to our staff for adjusting.

That and it happened a lot when LSU let the play clock run down I believe.

Also, props to our tackles to doing a good job blocking even with them getting near-perfect jumps.

I noticed it far more in the second half. Particularly early 4Q

should we adjust our snap count by a fraction of second in the future?

Yeah when we were letting play clock go to zero it was easy for them to time their jump.

Surprised they didn't go to a dummy hard count to get them to jump off sides

They had our snap count down to the tee. Didn't seem like we really changed it though, because they were still jumping it late in the game.

Yep. Definitely didn't seem like we fixed it to me.

But the game plan was excellent to avoid their edge guys, so it didn't matter a whole lot

Some of those jumps were a little early, and they got away with it. But there were several were they were perfect. Considering how good Burrow is at false cadences, I'm surprised we didn't utilize that more to keep them honest.

They definitely got away with some early jumps. Any part of the helmet past the nose of the ball is offsides..and they had several of them.

Silent count on the road with claps. Pretty easy for the D to time when clock is at 1. Just like having to adjust the check with me defense we were running to get Stingley burned when he looked to the sideline, we will adjust.

Bama obviously learned alot about LSUs pre-snap tendencies. They way they were able to jump/time the snaps on defense, catching Stingley off-guard. As a staff, they need to learn from that. You've got to do what you do, and do it well, but make no mistake about it...Bama is very well coached, they saw stuff on film and they made LSU pay for it.

Absolutely had it timed. Remember when the LB blitzed and was offsides by a mile ? They were looking at something and he got crossed up

Yes. Was mentioned last week.

I've been watching Burrow to see if there is anything with hands, feet, or otherwise body giving it away. Got nothing definitive yet... just a theory (at bottom). Focus on the hands.

4:48- watch L-DE He's moving before ball on stunt.

7:12L-DE again. Moves WITH ball; this might just be good jump.

8:05nothing spectacular about the jump off.

Now in the second half you can see the adjustment(s)... his claps are different. Not as hard, almost like a golf clap where the arms dont move much. But, there still a motion (or lack thereof) following the clap...

13:03This might just be great timing by blitzing LB (with VERY poor recognition by Magee- LB showed AND situation called for blitz due to FG range). However, no hand thrust post-clap.

BTW, next play is the draw play in redzone. Has to have been a read & audible by Burrow, look how far wide the L-DE lines up.

13:31the TD with spin cycle by CEH. R-OLB is the one he broke ankles on. Burrow does lean in on this one, but didn't thrust his hands forward.

15:41standard get-off, no hand thrust (or lean).

The only thing different I see is Burrow keeps his hands clasped sometimes, others he opens them up and thrusts them forward slightly.

Best I can tell, when he thrusts hands they aren't getting the jumps.

When he keeps them clasped, they are SOMETIMES getting the uber-jumps. Now... how in the hell the ABSENCE of an action (opening and thrusting) be a key. IF this is what they are using, it HAS to be a combination of pace/timing and the action. I.e., hands don't unclasp, give it half a tick and go.

Definitely not a scientific study. I just noticed the hand clasp vs non-clasp/thrust. So I went backwards, when they got the super jumps what did he do, and when not what did he do.

i have NEVER seen so many perfectly timed jumps. when i watched the replay, i was increasingly astonished at how many times they were able to do that.
