I follow recruiting, but somehow I missed his laser-timed forty at the Opening last year. 4.3 flat. Wow.

I knew he was fast, but not Top 5 NFL pick fast. Usually the kids with elite speed also run track in HS and it reinforces the track speed moniker and adds some credibility to 4.3 embellishments HS prospects & coaches are known to make to enhance their value for college offers. But Derek never ran track in HS, iirc.

Post-NFL Draft, I got curious again about the next great Tiger from DBU. I can easily see him putting on more muscle like Patrick Peterson did (6-1, 219, 4.34) and solidifying his Top 5 spot. Lucky for us, the 2022 NFL Draft is 3 years away.

His junior season he had 18 passes thrown his way. He had 11 interceptions and gave up only one completion for the season. His coach said the completion was right before halftime and they were in prevent defense at the time.

I like his attitude. He gave up all the all star games to enroll early - gonna be something special!

Aranda and Eaux both said he was the best player on the field during bowl practices. The kid will be special. Very special.

If Stingley pans out like he is projected, this guy who had the one catch on him will have lifelong bragging rights. ESPN might have to do a 30 for 30 on him..."The Catch".

Yeah he looks insane

He has more picks than completions against in high school.

Also if I’m not mistaken his grandfather was that Patriots player who was paralyzed going up over the middle. Feel like we’ll hear about that 500x before he leaves LSU

It's amazing that other teams tested him 18 times before learning not to. Later in the season it was probably considered a trick play.

Coach: "What is the one thing they would not expect us to do?"

Assistant coach: "Throw to Stingley's side of the field."

Coach: "What the hell lets try it. They won't be expecting it and neither will he".

Stadium Announcer: "And Stingley picks off another one. This one was returned for a pick-six".

Coach: "frick!!!"

He has that special quality of looking like he is barely running while he is running circles around receivers. The last person I remember with that quality was Patrick Peterson. It’s just unreal how athletic he is.

Can’t say enough about what this means for a player and how serious he’s taking being a great Tiger. To add to this, although Elias Ricks can’t sign yet, he has been a HUGE recruiter for LSU to get more West coast guys here. Elias also transferred schools because he’s been taking college courses to graduate high school early. His current school will not accept the courses for graduation. He said he is serious about finishing early to be fully ready for Spring ball to compete for a starting position as a freshman. It’s these attitudes like these two young men that we need to drive this engine. They will be leaders and won’t need anyone pushing them to be successful.

Running track can help with top end speed and maybe quickness, but it hurts hip dexterity. The hips get stiff from running in a straight line, and makes it more difficult to turn and burn.

My kid plays soccer, and runs track. His soccer trainer didn't know he ran track, and we went for a training session. Within a couple minutes of exercises, he said "have you been running track or something?"

That was last year. This year he ran track again, and it didn't take long for it to be apparent in his play on the soccer field. He looked stiff and inaccurate.

Stingley not running track is a very good decision, and preserves his ability to move quickly in any direction. On top of that, not running track with that kind of speed is amazing. Dude is going to be ridiculous.

watched him pick a pass on the sideline, while playing FS towards the middle of the field (pass was a floater). then reverse his field to the opposite sideline, and score a TD. No one was even close to touching this dude. Doesn't sound overly impressive these days, but seeing it in person real time, it was something to see. Kid can flat out fly.

He’s the best dB prospect we’ve ever had at DBU. He’ll be the top defensive player taken in the draft in 3 years.

Sounds about right. That might also explain why Bama's No-Chest CB Tony Brown went undrafted.
