By the way, LSU did not blow OU out of the Superdome in '03. That was a very close game that might have gone a different way if LSU was not basically playing at home.

BUT they DOMINATED that OU offense for 4 quarters. They avg almost 600 yds per game coming in and LSU held them to 152 TOTAL YARDS!!!!!! IMPRESSIVE!!!

THe question is are you really serious??? USC basically plays a home game in the Rose Bowl every year against Michigan, does that count??

They averaged almost 600 yards per game in your world.

In the actuality, they were averaging 461 yards per game before the title game.

What does that matter when you look at Oklahoma's totAL YARDS in their own conference it does not mean crap if you can not win a BCS game especially if it is the NC game. Oklahoma impressive yards did not mean a thing against LSU, Florida and or even lonely Boise State. Why, because they play in a weaker over all conference...

Count against what? I have USC #1 based on winning %, top 3 finishes, conference championships, Heisman Trophy winners, All-Americans, 1st-round draft picks, etc...If LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, or Ohio State wins this year, they easily overtake SC for #1. But until they do, I think they are pretty clearly #1. A much better argument to me is for # 2 between Florida and LSU.

And I don't agree with Matt that one BCS championship is better than another. It's all relative to the other teams in that particular season. I don't take anything away from LSU in '03, but I do give USC credit for their AP championship. So to me, it's not just 1 NC divided up between 2 teams, i'ts more like more than 1. LIke 1 and a half. Or 1 and 2/3.

I happen to think alot of USC football, my beef is with Oklahoma. WHen you think of college football the past few years, this decade I think of USC, Florida and LSU the most.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. That's one of the reasons I felt UF had a great shot against OU in the title game this year.

Ok, I'll toss in my two cents..
1) LSU
2) Florida
3) USC
4) OU
5) Tx

I put LSU above florida because we've done more (higher win %, more & better bowl wins).
I put LSU & FL in front because they have two championships. I also point out that an SEC team has never lost a BCS title game. If we get there we win, usually in a blowout. That tells me that SEC teams are undervalued in the selection process. I think Auburn would have won in 2004.

Is that the bottom line? Because I just read one of your posts from the bottom of the last page. You know, the one that looked liked a little girl's post with all the "lol"s, and "rotflmao"s? That one? Because you seemed to indicate with all your cute emoticons that OU didn't just lose, they were embarrassed. I don't know, I don't speak little girl emoticonese, maybe I'm wrong. Or are you saying that every loser of every BCS game should be embarrassed? And again, I ask you: would you rather win the Peach Bowl than lose a BCS game?

I agree(I think). I think OU should clearly be behind USC, Florida, and LSU. However, if they win this year(and they could), I think they shoot to #1. They would be tied with BCS NCs, and the rest of their resume would be far superior to anybody's but USC's. Say what you will about the Big 12, but it's clearly been the 2nd best conference this decade, and winning it so many times counts. As does making the BCSNCG. Surely you realize that 2-3 in the national championship game is better than 2-0.

Excellent post, Carl. Folk rag Stoops and OU for losing in title games, but losing to us, USC, and Florida is nothing to be ashamed of, although on paper, they should beat folk like Boise St. and West Virginia.

First of all just stick to the conversation at hand without the cute little put downs and I will stop using the "cute little emoticons.

Now to answer your question. It is difficult for anyone who loves their team to be always realistic about their team, including me. However, living outside that egocentric bubble it is clear to me and many others that Oklahoma has been overmatched in a number of their BCS matchups, It was not surprising to me to see Oklahoma lose, as a matter of fact I was confident they would lose, because they play in a weaker over all conference and would never be able to have the success especially offensively that they have enjoyed in their own conference through the years. LSU deserved to play in the Peach bowl based on their record, not play in a BCS bowl, so I am very happy about that, and no I would not have wanted LSU to play in a BCS bowl against a team I felt they were not ready to play. So in that regard I am realistic, however the media and Oklahoma fans are extremely mistaken if they feel they deserved to play against LSU, USC in the NC game, and of couse could not even beat Boise State. Maybe they should learn to be more realistic about their conference and their team, as the media and fans have become of OHIO State. SO to answer your question I am happy that LSU won their non B CS bowl in the fashion they did as it sets them up nicely, in a very postive matter for the next year. Does that mean that I would prefer LSU play in non BCS bowls over BCS bowls, NO. I hope this answer your question.

I don't agree with USC being number 1. They still have one losing season, and one .500 season so that drops them in my opinion. Plus they only have one BCS championship. ppl can spin it anyway they want but that is the system that the schools agreed to, so it counts for more.

quote:

I have USC #1 based on winning %, top 3 finishes, conference championships

Now I can understand using this, but it doesn't tell the entire story.

quote:

Heisman Trophy winners, All-Americans, 1st-round draft picks,
This is where you lose me. When picking a team of the decade, how in the world do you factor in this?
