Was the big difference maker in this game IMO. As badly as the team played on critical moments with penalties and/or breakdowns in coverage on critical 3rd downs, this was still a 13-7 game until the last 3-4 minutes of the 1st half. The complete loss of coverage at the corner on a 3rd and long keeps the defense on the field for what ended up being the last 15 minutes of the half. Not only did that translate to 7 more points but also a completely gassed defense heading to the locker room - only to have to kick off to MSU to start the 3rd quarter. It was that drive that showed that the nails were already in the coffin. Otherwise, this game could have remained tight (or at least much tighter). IMO, the defense gave up and the offense panicked with low percentage deep routes coupled with sacks. The shite rolled downhill from there. I'm not naive or homer LSU enough to believe LSU wins the game regardless, but the breakdown on 3rd and long that allowed the last drive TD in the 1st half was the key to the blowout.

MSU is a better team than LSU. Would beat us 7 out of 10 on a neutral field.

I agree, I was there and when we got them to 3rd and long on that drive I got the feeling that if we held then we could go into the locker room and regroup. But when they scored and got the ball to start the 2nd half I knew it was headed downhill.

It's mind boggling why we don't run quick slants , drags, or outs... especially with the offensive line struggling. Miss State consistently completed 5 yard outs on 1st down. They were 2nd and 4 all night, where LSU was 2nd or 3rd and 8 all night.

We lost by 30. It's not a fluke when you lose by 30. Do you think it was a fluke that will beat BYU by 27? Do you think they're actually better than us?

No we are better than BYU. MSU is better than us.

The post was not intended to argue who was better - MSU won big and obviously played better, had better players at some key positions, and more depth. But, to disregard the fact that LSU swung and missed at least 5-6 times on some big key plays on both sides of the ball is missing the reason we lost by 30. If the game goes to halftime with only a 6 point lead, I suspect MSU plays tighter to open the 2nd half and LSU plays with more energy and less panic. The whole game plan seemed to go out the window because of the 13 point lead - and again, don't dismiss the importance of our defense staying on the field for one more long drive that ended with a MSU TD with 10 seconds on the clock - total exhaustion and totally demoralizing. It may have been a Dumb and Dumber moment for a fan like me, but I thought LSU still had a "chance" if not for this.

They are but they shouldn't be. They damn sure should never be able to beat us like that.

Don't forget we held them to 3 & out on the first series of the 2nd half only to give them a first down on a stupid penalty, it was 17-7... they eventually scored on that drive.

Our responding drive is the 3rd down that hit Gage in the facemask. They scored on the next drive too.

3 scoring drives in a row to end the 1st half and start the 2nd.
