So why are we being picked by most to finish 6-6 or 7-5? Auburn and Alabama got to the big game with freakin Nick Marshall and Jacob Coker under center.....I mean c’mon our defense will easily be top 5 in the conference. We just have to find a way to score.

they see the coach is ED O. the offense is a complete unknown that is why the predictions are what they are. I believe the predictions are wrong however.

You know the answer to this. You even state

This is the earliest officiating complaint I can remember.
Its PRE SEASON and we are already getting in form for November....

Schedule
Head coach responsible for worst loss ever to MSU and lost to Troy
OC uncertainty
Offensive personnel uncertainty
Lack of cornerback depth

A lot of LSU's team this season will be new which obviously creates unknowns. They might be prove to be good, but it is typically safer to say they wont.

I see QB, Oline, TE, and WRs being better this year. Missing Guice and Williams will suck tho.

Agreed. I think Curry and provens will prove to be very important as the season. Progresses, we’ll be back loaded at the running back spot next season. We’ve got to get some production out of Brossette and CEH

Cam Newton won a championship with an awful defense.

Defense can win ships if your offense can score an average amount of points, keep turnovers down, and maintain decent TOP.

They were not awful. They make some big time plays and were middle of the pack for the SEC. Fairley was a beast.

They led the SEC in TFL. They were similar to the Saints in 2009. Made big plays at big moments, but were average if you look at scoring totals.

ETA:

And they had the greatest college football player ever as QB.

Defense wins championships as long as your offense can consistent score more than 24 pts a game.

Yea, that's right. Look at 2011 LSU. At best a mediocre offence fronted by Jefferson and Jarrett Lee, yet they got to the championship game and are widely regarded as the best LSU team ever.

No! Why do people keep saying LSU is a target of redneck Alabama officials who selectively destroy the program anyway humanly possible. NO I SAY!!

Only thing this roster is missing is a All American RB.. but we have a nice mix of RBs so we should be fine. Im super excited and the season is still too far away.

We were the 10th ranked defense in the country in 2016 and lost 4 games. If you don't have an offense you aren't going anywhere.

Bama did only have Coker, but he was extremely efficient vs every ranked team but Ole Miss. Bama played 7 teams that finished ranked and he completed at least 64% vs all but Ole Miss (completed 69% or better vs all but Ole Miss and Clemson). They also had Derrick Henry who ran for 2200 yards and 28 TDs.

Nick Marshall was explosive as well in 2013. He averaged 8.3 ypa with 1970 pass yards and 14 TDs and averaged 6.2 ypc with 1070 rush yards and 12 TDs. Trey Mason ran for 1800 yards with a 5.7 ypc average and 23 TDs, Grant ran for 650 averaging 9.2 ypc with 6 TDs, and Payne ran for 610 averaging 6.7 ypc with 6 TDs. That offense was ridiculous in 2013. They ran better than any triple option team and they passed WAY better than any triple option team. They finished with the #11 total offense and #12 scoring offense. On the other hand, their scoring defense barely cracked the top 50, and their total defense was 87th.

Unless you have Alabama level defense and depth with an extremely good game manager and heisman RB, don't expect to win or even get to a championship with a mediocre offense.
