Everyone keeps stating that we can't make a change because O has a $12M buyout. You absolutely can and they (Alleva not included) would.

LSU Football netted $55M in football for 2015-2016. That's profit. Those profits usually pick up the slack (losses) from other sports, and the Athletic Department as a whole netted about $12M. It was around the same for 2014-2015.

For starters LSU will already pay him $3.5M this year, so if he's fired they'd owe him $8.5M payable over multiple years.

It is going to get to a point this season when the losses pile up, people aren't showing up, and in early 2018 season ticket sales are going to TANK. At that point $8.5M would be insignificant compared to the hit the total athletic department would stand to lose, and revenues to local businesses. That would all be compounded by drops in 2018 recruiting.

It's all a cash flow play, and they aren't going to blink if they thinks its going to crash the entire athletic budget which would happen if football revenues crash. All it would take would be for that $55M to drop to $45M and they are in a bind.

It's not about whether or not they could afford it, it's the PR nightmare they will face with paying on 2 separate buyouts and firing a coach after just one season.

Honestly the only thing I'm worried about right now is getting rid of Alleva. I have no clue how that idiot still has a job and I'm wondering why something hasn't been done about it already. Once he is gone I will start worrying about the other clowns bringing this program down.

You are correct in the above, but are missing a key component.
Both the former gov (Jindal) and current gov (Festus) have advised F King that firing the coach (and having to pay the subsequent buyout) would hurt LSUs ability to get state funding from the LA legislature.
With that knowledge does anyone really think that F King would be willing to pay 2 buyouts at once - plus a potential 3rd to get a new coach from his current school?

I think we are pretty well screwed for 17 and 18.

Never have understood the concept of we can’t fire someone cause of the PR nightmare.

No business I know would suggest the PR of firing someone is worse than the PR not being successful

The optics are horrible. But, the optics of losing to Troy, having minimal effort on the field, and progressively bad press conferences are pretty bad, too.

What a shitshow.

Getting rid of alleva is 1000x more important than getting rid of orgeron. In medicine we call it treating the underlying cause

No, the PR nightmare would be going down the same road we're on.

I don't think there is much of a PR nightmare if they fire him and the AD. It would be easy to come out and say that the search process last year was ineffective and poorly managed.

The local and national media already know this.

But with us firing Miles and Oregon in the span of a year and a half, it would be imperative that the next hire is a home run. We can't afford a dud.

Here's what's really going to drive this: lost game revenue. Changes that Alleva has made to the gameday experience, tailgating, parking, traffic, ads in TS, it's not the fun time it used to be and people are deciding not to go. If this team keeps performing the way they have, on top of all the other stuff, revenue is going to nosedive in a major way, and that's definitely going to push the issue.

THIS!! You are missing the point if you think the only thing to focus on is O's buyout. The overwhelming problem is shitbag Aleva!

Another myth is
quote:

the PR nightmare
if LSU is paying on two buyouts at once.

Better a decisive action with just a bit of chattering questions later than to simply pretend all is well in Tigerland and keep the ball "rolling" when the only roll is a program destroying downward one.

Fans have no confidence in Alleva. Fans have no confidence in CEO. Surgical removal of both - swift, decisive and done is best option. To hell with any optics.

The University doesn't pay the buyout. But I agree it's about perception.

So an awful hire was made, and a contract drawn up by a fool, and LSU will continue to eat the shite sandwich to avoid the bad PR.

Man, that's messed up.

You’re right about LSU having plenty of money. And there’s more to come from wealthy boosters. The issue isn’t going to be money, at least I hope so, but a clear plan to national prominence which is what we need. I love O but having witnessed the Troy game live and hearing the post game comments I believe a complete makeover is needed including a new AD. I hope someone, not Alleva, is contacting big name coaches about their interest in LSU. I like Bob Stoops but there are others who could get it done.

It all starts with Alleva. Just getting rid of the coach is treating a symptom of the main issue. Deal with the AD and go from there. Even if you have to keep Orgeron until at least next year, firing Alleva is going to solve a lot of problems in the long run, assuming they hire the right person to fill that spot.

getting rid of Alleva is paramount

Orgeron's ineptitude will take care of him eventually

You want to talk about a PR nightmare? Go to any sports related website and look for recent articles about LSU. We are in PR hell already bro.
