LSU accomplished eight victories for the 18th-straight season, marking the longest in SEC history and tying Oklahoma for the longest current streak in Power-5 conference football.

tRant says it should have been at least 9 wins a year. Not impressed.

8 victories for 18 years is a historical record?

I'm supposed to be happy with an 8-4 (or 8-5) season, with our recruiting? When 3-4 of those wins every year are against cupcakes?

No thank you, I have higher aspirations.

Some of these figs are still melting over the Tennessee win.

The times..they are a changin... pro style offense became predictable and teams recruited to counter it. so we have to change. twas a good move.

That's great and all but 8 win seasons really aren't the ultimate goal.

LSU is also tied for the record of missing the playoffs for 3 consecutive years.

Nobody said it was the be-all and end-all or a goal to stop at 8.
But frick. 8 wins a year for 18 straight years, good Lord, ENJOY your school's sustained football accomplishment. No one else, not even the oh, Holy Saban has done this at AlaBammer.

I'm not necessarily a pumper, but damn, credit where it's due and it's LSU!! There's no need to be so damn miserable about every picking thing.

At least 50% of the Rant believes LSU is somehow exempt from a five year run of 4-6 wins per season, like those experienced by virtually every program in America. And believing anything short of a Championship season is failure, they won’t ever really enjoy the 10 game per season average over almost two decades. A lot of people see the four SEC championship years and two national championship years in that span as great, and the other years as failure . A lot of them even pick apart those championship years and remember them with stress and anxiety. It’s more of a question of how you view life and Enjoy life than anything else. Some people will be grateful for all the great memories and experiences and others will always curse the fact that we did not have a “ Bama run”. Missing the essential point that LSU football has been in a golden age and that it has likely improved our lives immeasurably in a thousand little ways.

I agree we are spoiled in some ways, but some of us also see that settling for Orgeron is a way to say "meh, 8 wins is enough."

Also, keep in mind we did this during a stretch where the new normal is 12 regular season games. So, think of it as "7 wins a year" for 18 years if you grew up watching LSU in the 70s and 80s. 7-4 as the norm got Chollie Mac run.

I'm enjoying this more than the Archer/Hallman era, however. It is better to be 2nd tier than bottom tier.

It's only one of many benchmarks. It does NOT speak volumes, but it does mean something.

And you and other posters are right to have much higher aspirations/expectations. I think we are all clear on that.

South Carolina has 8 wins this year.

This is the 13th time in their 100 plus years of playing football. Should we give them a parade?

The point is not that we have averaged eight wins . It’s that eight wins has been the floor . We have averaged ten wins for close to two decades. I’m not sure why the more pessimistic among us work so hard to deny those additional 36 wins .
