Southern is not a good school. It’s not a Spellman, Moorehouse, or a Xavier. Could the post you’re replying to be racist? Absolutely and it probably is. But southern is not a bastion of academic integrity and rigor.

I mean it was discovered not that long ago that degree's were bought and paid for by individuals without ever having to go to the school and were in fact working in some of the Parish School Board offices around the state and had to be terminated from their job.

Sad but true

So in your racist little world Southern does not provide an education to its students?

I hire college students; sometimes as many as 35 per year. Southern is horrible. So is Prairie View and every other "black" college within 300 miles of nola. Southern has some good graduate programs, but the core is very, VERY bad. I'm not happy about that. I wish it weren't so. But it is so.

but why go through the hassle of a D1 commitment and transferring when you could have gone lower division from high school.

As with most HS recruits you don't know how good they will or will not be at the next level. As far as he or anyone else knew coming out of HS he would be able to compete for playing time at LSU. Once he got on campus and started competing against other players he wasn't good enough. This is something no one knows when a kid is coming out of HS. Most kids are recruited based on potential. Cotton had the size and athletic ability LSU was looking for in a dlineman. Obviously he wasn't progressing enough to compete for playing time. To be honest, it's not a guarantee that he competes for playing time at Southern. Won't know until he gets there, gets suited up and starts banging heads.
