Dandy's new Depth Chart has a 4-2-5 defense
I like depth charts btw. LINK

Dandy is guessing we will see more of a 4-2-5 with a nickel, instead of a 4-3.

What are your thoughts on what looks the d will show?

I would have guessed a 3-3 vs a 4-2. But does anyone really knows?

This is what we should have ran last year with Jacoby as the 5th DB playing all over the field.

Sweet depth chart thread with absolutely no depth chart.

We’ve got some real savants on this board.

Once you have guys like Stevens at safety and Cox at LB you can be so versatile with 4-3 or 4-2-5. It's pretty cool how they'll use these big SS or a fast LB to match up and play some cool combos coverage to certain sides of the field.

Is Lee at TE legit? I hadn't seen that.

Why? DLine might be the deepest position on the team and LB, not so much.

They did play 4-2-5 last year. That's what nickel is in a 4-3

I see Our 3 DBs being Ricks, Stingley McGlothirn

I never subscribed to the idea that a nickel is anything but your 3rd best CB, and I think That more true now that teams routinely put their WR1 in the slot to get this matchup.

Flott was rough in 2020. McGlothrin looked legit In the spring game.

re: Dandy's new Depth Chart has a 4-2-5 defense

4-3 is a base defense.
It's what you build your defense towards at the core.
So, instead of having more linebackers in your depth chart like a 3-4, you have more DLineman.
In today's game however, teams are mainly in Nickle (5 DBs) and Dime (6 DBs) because of offenses running more WRs.
It really comes down to personnel.
If the offense comes out in a package with 3+ WRs, you're most likely see defense in Nickle (3 CBs, 2 Safeties) and the CBs increase as the WRs increase.
If the offense comes out in 2 or less WRs, you'll most likely see the defense in it's base package (4-3).

With all the talent, depth, and chemistry we have on DLine, why would we go 3-3?
If we see 3 DLineman on field, you best believe there will be 1 or 0 LBs and it's a package heavy on DBs.

They have for the last 6 years or so. Prob +\- 75% of the time. As do most teams. No one plays from a base defense anymore

According to Stingley, SR, he doesn't think McGlothern has the hips or the quick twitch enough to play nickel.

Correct. McGlothern is strictly a boundary corner.

I think it would be hard to put the 3 of Mcglothern, Stingley and Ricks in at the same time. I don't think any of them are true nickel DBS. Stingley could do it, but then do you want him away from the boundary and the deep stuff. Does he want to do that.

re: Dandy's new Depth Chart has a 4-2-5 defense
It’s not a high risk guess. Everyone runs more DBs and fewer LBs on most plays. Not if they are playing Georgia Southern, but against most teams? Sure.
