He moved from OLB In a 3-4 to MLB in a 4-3

LSU needs him back for sure.

Here is my humble opinion from my desk jockey spot at 3000 feet, so TIFWIW.
I think he is an outstanding person, teammate and leader. So they have a natural desire to give him a leadership role on the field. And he looks the part and has great measurables. But despite all that he has really poor instincts, in traffic, of reading a play and getting to the ball carrier and or receiver. Linebacking is about reading, reaction and burst. He's nearby, but he's not actually making the play. He just doesn't seem to have it instinctively, like heat-seeking-missiles like Patrick Queen or Devin White.
Personally, I think at 6-3 245 and really fast and super-athletic they need to give him a different role on the team (maybe as an edge setter or blitz package guy) and go with a guy with good anticipation who can read a play and understands space better.
All that said, I think he's an asset to this team and I know for a fact that he has everybody's respect, including mine. He's part of the solution and now the coaches need to coach him and everybody else up.

Again I don’t think Clark is a problem.

I tend to agree with scheme being a problem I wouldn't go as far as coach yet. He may have no idea what pelini is asking if him rn compared to what his muscle memory has been telling him last 4 yrs. But that is no excuse for playing without fire and getting down on yourself and quiting consistently on plays when u are out of position and upset with how you are playing..
That's what im seeing someone giving 50-75% effort when he is confused or not happy with how play went or his positioning where he is on the field when he identifies the guy with the ball... All he has to do is blow his load every single play good or bad and lay the lumber with everyone until things start clicking...
He is not playing with fire and it's not ok

I am with the Pimp!
Unfortunately I dont think he is the only one out there that is a problem. I think there are 2-3 boat anchors out there right now. A couple of folks out there not doing their job make everyone look bad.

Mentally lost, which your Mike absolutely cannot be

Reminds me of Donnie Alexander who had crazy hype going into the 2017 season and he was nothing more than average

I remember thinking he was a future stud the first game last season when he had that open field one arm tackle against I believe Georgia Southern's QB. He honestly looks like a big kid out there that doesn't know how to use his body. It's been weird

I truly believe his issue is mental, not physical. He looks slow because he's hesitant.
Maybe that performance in the 7th OT is still haunting him. Fear of failure is causing him to fail. By tip toeing around past mistakes, he's making them again.

Donnie Alexander had a lot of hype going into 2017 LSU fans just forgot, we had 3 straight years where a linebacker broke out for us Kwon, Debo Jones, Duke Riley, and Donnie was hyped to be next after a solid year in 2016 but he didn’t live up to the hype

If i'm not mistaken didn't he get the nod over Patrick Queen to start the first few games???
I don't think this is correct. Early last year the staff wanted Divinty inside (over Queen), not Clark.

3-4 LB, attack.
4-3 LB, read and react.
It's not his game.

Baskerville was a stud as a freshman too. I don’t get it.

When the others on the defense are performing up to expectations, any one individual's job is easier thus he performs better.
Couple of examples:
Clark doesn't stick with crossing route too long because Cox knew assignment and did pickup on time, hence Stevens (who is in right spot IF Clark doesn't vacate) is in better position to make tackle. Since Stevens is in better position with less open area to cover because Clark vacated because Cox was late Stingley can more readily assist with tackle therefore it looks like Stingley and Stevens had more hustle because they gang tackled; to boot because Clark didn't run himself out of play due to Cox's error he's able to close on that tackle with less ground to cover and if Stevens misses Clark is mopping up.
WR makes proper read and gets off line clean(er) consistently, therefore Brennan can anticipate and throw to where he is going to be instead of waiting on him to come open thereby holding ball too long and the 6th man on rush looping to inside isn't able to hit home therefore it looks like OL is blocking better.
In short, it is all synergistic. Everybody looks great when all parts do good. But when 1 part fails, all look like dog shite.

That’s what happens when you install a new defense and don’t have the time to practice it in live action enough. They didn’t lose their talent all of a sudden. They lost the ability to attack because they’re thinking and not reacting. It freezes them. They looks late, they get nervous, unsure, want to make up and it started to get away. I think if they simplify like O says, they’ll look much much better. They’ve been running an entirely different type of defense for 4 years. It’ll get better.
