Damone Clark, what Happened?
What happend to this guy?

Does anyone recall early last year?

He was a stud in camp. His name got brought up by CEO again and again.

If i'm not mistaken didn't he get the nod over Patrick Queen to start the first few games???

That was one of the things analysts said about Queen in the NFL draft. That he wasn't even a game1 starter. He had to earn it over Clark. They were neck and neck for like the first 3 weeks last year and eventually Queen beat him out.

I remember Damone Clark making some plays in those first few games last year too! Overall he had a decent season as a backup Linebacker in 2019.

What happend??? How do you fall off that bad? Was he just better in the 3-4 scheme? He just looks like a totally different player this year. Dudes like 6-3 245. I thought he would be an animal this year but he's been hot garbage.

Again I don’t think Clark is a problem.

The entire defense looks lost. It is coaching.

Clark didn’t forget how to play in the offseason.

Is this a Jonathan Giles thread?

It’s not his talent, he just isn’t understanding what to do

Looks slow and disinterested in engagement. Being out of position is partially on the coaches, but not being able to get off blocks from Miz’s 3rd string line is an issue.

O also said that this defense is better than last year’s. You should consider that maybe his assessment of talent and scheme isn’t reliable.

He never was any good, he just looked the part but never played the part. That’s why he got passed up last year.

Giles never showed anything. Clark showed something. see if you can show some intelligence.

re: Damone Clark, what Happened?
He played well in spots in Devin White’s absence, but that was when we had Aranda.

it's definitely coaching.

I do not like Ryan Clark but there may be some truth in his trashing of Bill Busch(sp).

I also know raymond is his boy etc, but we've never seen a secondary and LB corps so lost. we know CR knows how to coach a secondary, but it's like he's not even in the building anymore.

I was watching Bama D perform the same base D against UGA last night a shit-ton more effectively than what we have been doing so I switched to the LSU/Mizzou game on my DVR and my short analysis was that the two MLB's and the safeties/nickels are lost and dont know what to do.

One particular play Mizzou lined up a bunch three out wide to their left and one back in with the QB. Pre Snap we only lined up two defenders on them but you could see a safety on that side just out of the picture so he was 12-14 yds deep. On the snap, on of the trips peeled over to the sideline and the RB just stayed in to pass block. The two DBs lined up on the trips took their guys in man coverage. Both of the MLB's stood their ground - did not rush or pick up anyone in coverage.

The ball was thrown to the wide open receiver on the sideline and Clark never moved until the ball was thrown and then took a bad angle and the play netted 15 yds.

The summary here is that neither MLB (Clark or Cox) had a clue what they were supposed to do on that play and pretty much did nothing.

Bama's LB's were much more active and appeared to me to be playing a little bit closer to the LOS. Also their pass coverage personnel were a lot better in man coverage than what we have shown.

To me right now the issue is the play level of:
Clark
Cox
Stevens (pass coverage)
Ward
Flott

Harris is a question mark too.

An absolutely apathetic approach to playing linebacker is a starter. Followed by a crippling lack of decision making.

re: Damone Clark, what Happened?
He’s a 3-4 ILB

Those guys are really meant to play in a box between the tackles

Now he’s one of 2 LBs on the field most of the time, asked to have the range to play the whole field

He doesn’t fit the new defense unless he’s playing DE in it

re: Damone Clark, what Happened?
He needs to think less and react more.

With two weeks to prepare, if he doesn’t show up and show out this next game, we need to go in a different direction. We can’t have our middle linebacker roam around the field like a lost puppy.

re: Damone Clark, what Happened?
Don't know where yall get he was good last year only played limited snaps and most of that time just rushed the qb. He is not a mlb. I hate agree with Lester but he's a small de. He doesn't have the speed or iq for mlb so he looks terrible out there, that part is on coaches if we can see he can't play mlb they should have known in the off season.

re: Damone Clark, what Happened?
Im not gonna sit here and try to play Xs and Os but I think this is why Jacobey Stevens is so good down low. He's physical enough to play on the LOS and has average cover ability as a safety which translates to above-average coverage ability as a LB. Hope that makes sense.

He’s always looked slow, runs upright and flat footed too me. I think it’s being exposed with more playing time

Aranda v no Aranda. Really that simple. Think you can say the same thing about the program writ large really.
