Dallas product Jarell Cherry could be LSU’s next great edge rusher
Posted by Tiger Ree on 2/11/18 at 12:04 pm8410

What does a 4.6 40, "Friday Night Lights" and Transformers have to do with Jarell Cherry?
Before he was LSU’s top-rated defensive signee for the class of 2018, 4-star defensive end Jarell Cherry was an electric running back
quote:
Because if there’s one thing that’s always stood out about Cherry, it’s his speed. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.64 seconds. That’s the same time as Myles Garrett, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Cherry also anchored Carter’s 200-meter relay team, running his split in under 24 seconds.
That’s just not something defensive ends should be able to do.
quote:.
Mr. Loyalty
On April 1, 2017, Cherry committed to LSU. And with that, Cherry’s recruiting saga came to an end. There would be no de-commitment. No wavering. No outside force could change Cherry’s decision
quote:
He’d been around the circuit for years. Cherry attended camps and visited colleges as early as his freshman year. He had a “good relationship” with former Texas coach Charlie Strong and visited Texas A&M and Oklahoma on multiple occasions.
But everything changed when he met LSU coach Ed Orgeron and defensive assistant Dennis Johnson. After early meetings with LSU coaches, Cherry said he believed they had his best interest in mind. Orgeron in particular, Cherry said, treats his student-athletes as if they’re his children. LSU was willing to show Cherry loyalty, so he said it was only fair to reciprocate.
quote:
On Dec. 22, 2017, Cherry fulfilled his commitment. He signed his national letter of intent to play for the Tigers at one of the most anticlimactic events you’ll ever watch. Cherry signed his paperwork wearing a purple shirt that read “Geaux Tigers” in big gold lettering in front of three silver balloons that spelled out “LSU.” No diversion tactics. No mystery. No second guessing.
No need.

Okay, now I REALLY like this kid. No flash, no fluff, just say something and do it. Which is covered by his trainer in the article.
quote:
“He’s old-fashioned,” Brooks said. “A man of his word. Whatever he says he’s going to do, he’s going to do. … He’s not the flashiest guy. He has a normal haircut, doesn’t have the wild haircuts like you’ve seen. Doesn’t have any tattoos or earrings. He’s just a quiet young man who handles business like a man should.”
There are videos of him running track against Richardson and him signing his LOI to attend LSU in the article. They had some pretty cool LSU balloons at his signing.
Dave Aranda comment on Jarell:
quote:
LSU made an effort to improve offensive and defensive line depth in recruiting. How do you think that worked out on your side of the ball?
Good. I’m excited about the people coming in. Physical, big, explosive guys. That’s needed. And we’ve got some edge rushers as well. You look at Travez Moore and Jarrell Cherry, guys we can put on the edge and set edges and win one-on-one in the pass rush.
I feel like the depth on the D-line we’ve had this year has been very apparent in the way we’ve played. When we haven’t had depth it’s also been very apparent. To be able to build our front is important

Great positive post. I think this guy has been forgotten a bit since he committed early. He looks the part and I wish him the best. If he puts the work in, he’ll be another legend of LSU football. This class has a few great pieces without the 5 stars we wanted but it is solid.

Moore and Cherry are both very promising. I'm also very interested to see what Chaisson can do in year 2. Hopefully he's added a little weight and strength to go with his athleticism and is picking up technique. We are stacked at DE/OLB and DL for 2018. We are also in a good position at ILB and safety as well.
Honestly CB depth is our only real concern on D and how quickly our new starters can develop and learn their respective responsibilities.

I imagine LSU fans will be very familiar with his name next year. He will wreck qb dreams imo.

Jarell doesn’t like you either.

Thanks for the post. I’m a Cherry fan.
Dare Rosenthal has been my favorite since I saw the 6'7" 327 pound DT return a fumble for a 74 yard touchdown.
Cherry is my second favorite.
When I read that he runs a 4.64 40 I had a flashback to the LSU-Oregon game. The Oregon QB handed off to the RB who took off to his left. An instant later the RB was tackled by Barkevious Mingo, who caught him from behind.

Pretty excited about him too.
One thing I wont take away from O is his ability to coach DLinemen.

He looks like Michael Brooks. Let’s hope he plays like him!

Because Tiger Ree is a terrible poster. People aren't downvoting the post, they're downvoting the poster.

that's more than a little juvenile, isn't it?

Ree's inflammatory posts were deleted. They were awful. Another poster noticed his hate filled comments and went off on him. That's probably the reason for the downvotes.

Why not give credit where it’s due? TR knows I’m no fan of his, but this was a good thread.

Nice article, thanks for sharing
8 downvotes? Don’t understand that...some of the people on this board are pathetic.
