a starter is already in. he didn't "come in" during a save situation.
think about a closer like a lifeguard at a pool.
and the starter is a swimmer.
a swimmer trucking along just fine that needs no help and gets himself to the edge of the poole didn't "save" himself, he just finished his swim.
a swimmer that needs assistance to get to the edge on the other hand did get "saved", so the lifeguard gets credit for the "save".

Why did Coastal's side of the bracket get an extra day of rest? They made the semis Sunday and don't play till Tuesday. If LSU made the semis yesterday (Monday), we have to okay Wednesday also. I see how that's laid out, but seems like an unfair advantage. What's the deal with that?

What Chicken said, plus for the two brackets to play all of the games in the same stadium and for broadcast purposes they have to be spread across two days. One side is always going to have that extra day of rest.
