"IF" healthy should have a great pitching staff. Will rely on home runs to produce runs. With Garza,Beloso,Cabrera and Travinski should be near the top of the SEC in HR.

CPM should use the GTFO strategy.

He didn’t say they would rely more on homeruns. And i know everyone here would be excited if we hit more homers, but homers arent necessarily a great indicator of success. They are important, but slugging and walks were more important for teams who made the cws this year. Along with teams whose pitching gave up fewer hits per 9 innings and teams whose pitching staffs that had the most k’s per 9

Believe it or not hits didn’t knock us out of the supers walks and errors did. We out hit FSU in both games.

He didn’t say that’s his strategy. He said we struck out entirely too much and if we’re going to strike out that much we have to hit more homeruns. He also said his team has to improve hitting off speed pitches.

The most concerning part of that interview was how he brushed off the pitching injuries as a 2-year anomaly. He defended Dunn's program when the data suggests that our pitching has progressively gotten worse and worse even though the talent is there.

I agree with you...i think the game has passed him by and he has turned the tigers into a mediocre program at best

I said this all year: This team doesn't hit enough bombs to be striking out this much and struggling with moving runners. We had a sloppy hitting approach, which can be overlooked to a degree if you're smashing it when you do make contact.

I hope we find some balance of both. I'd love to see more bombs, but I certainly don't want that to translate into terribly low average and/or high strikeout rate. I really think they need to get back to the fundamentals (approach, discipline, situational hitting, bunting, baserunning etc) this summer and fall - hit the weight room for the power boost. The fundamentals will make the most difference in our offensive performance, in the presence or absence of power numbers.

You should be banned from starting threads

There was a thread yesterday with actual quotes & links from the press conference.

Provide a quote from where he said “will rely on home runs to produce runs”.

Well said. 2 years in a row isn’t just a fricking coincidence. If he doesn’t feel the need to consider changing anything, then theres no reason to think next year will be any different.

I know he’s done he a solid job overall, but I think he’s going through the motions at this point. His explanations of ridiculously bad in game decisions are just unacceptable. The worst part is that he is either oblivious or just doesn’t even care.

Strategy?

Probably to not have base running clowns run themselves out of super regional wins

. That is one issue w Dunn. Another is his calling if the games. We end up w amazingly high pitch counts and too many walks too often.

I really did want to see a change there.
