Couldn’t LSU start its own apparel brand?

Nike makes great stuff for college uni’s, but they are implicated in corruption of college sports now.
So I thought about Louisiana apparel companies but they don’t seem so great either. With all the resources available in our own university, wouldn’t a joint venture between the athletic department and the academic side (Textiles, Apparel Design, and Merchandising majors) be a symbiotic relationship?
The model of success is already there (Nike materials and styles) and the revenue from merch would feed right back into LSU.
Does this idea suck and, if so, why? Are we not capable of producing quality uni’s for our own teams’ use? Do we lose out on sponsorship dollars or something?

LSU probably makes more money through Nike than having to produce merchandise by itself.

Good luck competing with the other apparel brands not named Nike

Money from Nike helps to offsets some costs and I doubt any shoe company is going to dive deep in a relationship with us just for shoes.
All shoe companies are embroiled in some kind of controversy at the time, so it is what it is. And for those who want to get away from Nike from a political standpoint, please go look at the clown costumes adidas forces it’s schools to wear.

Inventory is incredibly expensive for an apparel company. Lots of up front cost. I run an apparel line and had thought about consulting universities on creating their own internal brand.
Auburn did a great job of this.

Why incur the costs of manufacturing when you could just license your trademarks (like they do now)? LSU doesn't have to eat the manufacturing costs (there is a reason all of Nike, etc has their stuff made in China), inventory, etc. They get paid by Nike simply for the right to use the schools name. Essentially money for nothing but existing

LSU is not in that business..
Manuf+Inventory+Distribution+Losses+Personnel
= way too many headaches

It’s amazing how people let themselves become so obsessed with national political faux issues while blatantly ignoring atrocities that happen closer to home.

we make a lot of money through licensing our brand and logos. We don't need to be a clothing manufacturer. That's silly.

Not a politically motivated post or idea. Driven by Nike’s corruption into college basketball. Thanks to everyone for spelling out how impossible it is though. I was thinking just supplying our own unis tho. I now know better from you informative posters. Juice isn’t worth the squeeze.
