Slow your roll, I get it. But when I think back to football, the ‘19 football season was the best ever LSU football season…certainly so in my lifetime (52). Some even opine that it was the single greatest college football season ever.

We were coming off a 42-28 win over FLA and ranked #7…I knew we were really good at the season’s mid point, but wasn’t certain that we would beat that school to the east, much less that we’d end up historically the best.

Reading rds dc post “KenPom Def rating of 83.5 is the lowest ever for any team this far into the season”, got me thinking about how good this BB team can be.

Still early in the year, but are we watching what could be one of the deepest, most talented teams LSU has ever had? Could this be LSU’s best ever basketball season?

Our lone loss was at Aubie, a tough venue to say the least…and they are likely #1 by Monday. I think we can take them in the PMAC.

Knew we were good, but last night showed how truly deep the Tigers are and how sticky we can be defensively. I love watching LSU BB, but am not nearly as competent in BB as football. Best ever defense sounds compelling to me. We might have the defense, but do we have enough offense to compete for a Natty?

Yes. This team is special. And, College Basketball is wide open right now. There could be 10 or more teams capable of winning it all

Aren’t we 3-1 in conference? Maybe a little early for GOAT status.

You'll have your "answer" by 7pm CST on Saturday, January 22. If LSUMBB is 6-1 in the SEC then, we will have a shot at having one of our best seasons ever.

Said this team was Final 4 material after Ga Tech and got laughed at. Us and Auburn are two of the best teams in the country. I’ll take our defense on a neutral court against anyone.

1989-90 says hi, with Chris Jackson, Shaq, Stanley Roberts, Vernell Singleton, Maurice Williamson, Wayne Sims, Harold Boudreaux.

Absolutely loaded, but Dale couldn't even win the SEC regular season, lost in the 1st round of the SEC tourney, and lost in the 2nd round of March Madness.

What a waste.

The 80-81 team finished the regular season 27-2 (17-1) en route to a SEC championship and Final Four appearance.

The 18-19 team won the SEC with a 16-2 record and did not lose a single road game in conference play. A remarkable accomplishment.

This team is MUCH better defensively than the 18-19 team, but not nearly as balanced (this year's offense is the worst in the Wade era). Given the strength of the SEC and the struggles on offense I think it is a bit premature to think this will end up as the best basketball season ever. But, for the first time in the Wade era they have probably the toughest championship piece in place...a great defense.

LSU has only ranked in the top 10 defensively one time in the last 20 years....2006. We all remember what happened that season.

Dale also took a team of misfits to the elite 8.

I agree with both answers. I'd argue that at least the 1980 and 1990 teams were deeper and more talented. Ironically, the 1980 team only made it to the Elite 8 and the 1990 team only made it to the second round.

Not sure how you define "best season" but if they make it to the Championship game (regardless of how they do in the SEC), it could be deemed to be "best season." There are other things that could happen to make it a "best season" but it seems like we'd at least need to make the Final 4.

You missed the biggest part of the equation:

LUCK

NC's require a great deal of it !

It could be, but I just hate the thought of Adam Miller being the player that would've pushed us over the edge. Losing him was a bigger deal that people think.

Wade has done a tremendous job obviously, with only 1 loss to this point, but Miller was going to be such a good fit for what we have right now.

No just saying they have what it takes to make the Final 4. Will they? who knows but I like their odds and have some futures on them to do so.

That team was straight nasty. Had Macklin not gotten hurt in the Final 8 game, they win the NC. No doubt in my mind.
I was 11 at the time, got to watch them beat Wichita St in the dome and cried my eyes out when they lost in the Final 4.

correct, and that's where Dale excelled. Taking good talent and motivating them to play above their level.

But when Dale had extreme talent, he typically didn't get the most out of them.

79-80 would whip this teams arse as would 80-81. Hell 86 with all of the players before failing out would smoke this group. Those teams could shoot and flat out defend.
