Corey Raymond & other staffPosted by FatMan
on 12/10/20 at 8:41 am

Seen a few threads saying he is safe- 100% agree. But, what makes y'all think he will stay here? He has flirted with other offers before. Administration showed him 0 love not giving a chance to be DC. You telling me we are any worse with Raymond as DC this year? I highly doubt it... Get ready for some staff to leave as well, but voluntarily.
No sauces, this is just common sense.

Corey is safe.
Pelini is not.

As good of a coach as he is, it's probably time for a complete reset if this all turns out to be true. It sucks to lose the good coaches on staff, but that's the way it goes when your program turns to shite. A new coach likes to get all of his own guys, just like Woodward wants his own people.

Who gives a shite. His position group looks like dog shite this year outside of Ricks and Stingley. Those two guys would look great anywhere. If he isn’t producing find someone who will.
The Raymond situation is interesting to me, because he effectively got demoted when Busch came aboard. Remember he was solely DB coach, but then became CB coach only while Busch got the Safeties. He just got the recruiting coordinator gig this year.
Maybe he doesn't want the responsibility of being a DC.

If he wants to stay the DB coach, LSU should always have a job for him, and I think they will... If however, he wants to become a DC then I don't believe that is a risk LSU should take on. If he decides to go to a smaller school, and has success, then LSU would gladly re-hire him as a DC one day.

Corey stays here for 2 reasons:
1. Because he's one of if not the top paid DB coaches in the game. Not exactly a lot of schools willing to drop more than $600k+ for a CB coach (keep in mind, Corey only has CBs on this team now, as Busch took over Safeties)
2. Corey went to LSU, this is his alma mater, unlikely he has any want to leave here, as he knows he probably has a job for life here if he wants it, and making top coin in the game.
Corey is set to make $600k next year and $625k in 2022.

Can someone tell me how common it is to have a CB coach and a safeties coach, instead of having a single coach responsible for all DBs?
Seems like safeties and CBs need to be on the same page, which would likely be more difficult if there are two coaches involved.
It has appeared this season as if the DBs were not all on the same page.

I can only tell you that Saban has always had a dedicated safety coach at Alabama, just not an on field position
And the previous poster’s summation is my take also
Corey can coach and he can recruit

I think it goes back to Corey coaching all the DBs next year. I would Busch is going to be looking for other opportunities.

It's not that common but it happens. Raymond and Busch actually had that setup before at Utah State.
I seem to remember Florida and Ohio State having it before.

The safety group has certainly shown significant regression under his tutelage. Appreciate any role he had in bringing in Burrow. TYFYS and good luck in your future endeavors.

-Busch is a really good recruiter. I think you do what you gotta do to keep him happy and on staff. Imo.

Hindsight is it was better for him to not be DC this year. It would have hindered his career. IMO

Given that Aranda brought Busch in, I was pretty surprised he didn't go to Baylor. Maybe even as DC (Busch has been a DC before).

Safeties look bad this year.
Bush is responsible for that sh@t.
Recruiting cannot be the only thing you di good.
If you going attack the secondary, get everyone. One thing for sure, Raymond has produced in his spot over the years.
Busch is still trying to prove himself coaching. Name one safety that has played well all year?
Crickets.

We may be forced to promote Raymond or Busch to DC this year. If Pelini is canned and O's arse is on the hotseat, it's going to be difficult to pull a top tier DC with all the bull shite happening with the program right now.
