Although we had our issues on offense, my biggest concern is the defense and Pelini. As we all know, Pelini is a hot tempered, fiery old former head coach that has always walked to his own beat, which is a big reason he was fired at Nebraska. It was clear Pelini made no adjustments during the game and MSU ended up roasting our secondary. In his post game remarks, O said all the defensive calls were Pelini's which concerns me. In the past, I've seen O jump on a couple of coaches for a breakdown in one area or another, so why didn't he make Pelini make any changes? Is O going to continue to take a back seat and let Pelini run the defense his way? It worries me that O didn't force Pelini to make adjustments, and as a result, our defense was totally embarrassed on national television.

It's 1 game. A fricking shitty game, but 1 game nonetheless. O has fixed issues before and has earned a bit of slack with the whole 15-0 national title thingy.

I understand we went 15-0 and won the NC but that was without Pelini. He's not your average assistant coach and throughout his career he's done things his way. Just hope this hire doesn't come back to bite us in the rear.

Maybe he didn’t feel comfortable with them playing zone considering most of the people who started had barely practiced and we had a limited off season. None of the dbs played their true positions so maybe zone would have been worse. If they would have tackled well then it wouldn’t have been nearly as bad.

O brought him in because this is the style he wants.

O is not afraid to stand up to any man. If he feels like he needs to get in Pelini's arse, he will...for all we know, he already has. Pelini deserves more than 1 game as his measuring stick, though.

If I made a list of 100 things I was worried about O being able to do, lighting up - and if needed, shitcanning an assistant coach would not be on it.

I am more afraid that O is right in bed with Pelini scheme because O made statements before he hired Bo that he wanted his defense to be more agressive and attacking. I like O but I feel that this is his "meddling" issue. I think Pelini is doing what O wants.

I have seen posters on here say O did not like Aranda's read and react 3-4 and granted we gave up a lot of points to teams that should not have scored them but in the end we were better for it. They continued to learn and fortunately Brady and Burrow put up enough points to cover the early screwups. Hopefully O and Bo and the newbies learn this new scheme and find ways to make it work. I dont care what we run if it works.

Go back and watch how Pelini started in 2005. It was the exact same way. He turned it around fast.

Sorry, but didn't he let Dave run his own defense?

It's up to coaches to make the necessary adjustments.

I saw no necessary adjustments.

adjust to what? a zone? LULZ. you realize how hard that is to implement normally much less in our situation?

did you want him to go from cover 2 man under to prevent big plays over the top to cover 0 and get both safties to help double team 2 outta 5 receivers? then leach air raid us over the top with no help?

we had zilch for experience out there. easiest to play man under with safty help over the top. issue is we could not tackle or cover underneath so short crosses turned into long gains when they are not supposed to be. he was in a no win situation. his safest lowest risk situation blew up in everyones faces. it coulda been even worse in zone or cover 0. could we have tried cover 1 with other safety used as a undercutter to the crossing routes? sure but leach still coulda burned us where that safety vacated. none of these guys forgot how to coach. the players were bad. real bad.
