Coastal Carolina has to be the biggest Cinderella of the modern era.

Although Coastal was 44-15 after winning their conference tourney and was ranked 17th in the polls and had an RPI of 12, they had never been to the CWS.
They had been to 2 Super Regionals and were 0-4 in them.
So they were a #2 seed at the NC State regional and went 3-1 beating host NC State twice to win the regional.
Then came to Baton Rouge and beat us 2 in a row to make it to the CWS for the first time.
Then went to Omaha and beat #1 seed Florida in their first CWS game.
They lost the next game to TCU but came back to beat Texas Tech and TCU twice to advance to the championship series against Arizona.
Lost the first game but won the next two to take the championship.
They are the only team with only 1 CWS appearance and 1 championship and the first team to win it in their first CWS since Minnesota did it in 1956.
Then, doesn't even make the tournament this year. From Champs to the outhouse.
Still blows my mind they won it last year.

They were really really good. Just because you didn't know it before the super doesn't change the fact. Hard to be a Cinderella in college baseball.

that 08 Fresno State team was one of the last teams in the tourney I believe.

No...Not even the biggest upset in College Baseball. Just A few years back Fresno St came in as a #4 seed and won the whole thing. They needed to win conference tourney just to get an automatic bid.

So just because other teams wearing a CC jersey lost, they should have also lost??
Didnt Fresno St, or somebody like that win the CWS after being a 4 seed in a regional? Now thats a Cinderella.

Yeah, Fresno State is the biggest Cinderella. They faced elimination 6 times in the tournament and won every time.

To make a NCAA title run you are extremely good. Pitching, defense and hitting. Go look at Coastals numbers last season. They just missed being a 1 seed and a host. Then they played good ball the whole way through but they didn't play out of their minds at some unconscious level. That's not Cinderella stuff like Chaminade beating Virginia one night when the stars aligned.
