I watch a lot of KU basketball, and this is something Self has perfected. I've seen him sit the entire starting lineup for 5 minutes for coming out flat. His players usually respond.

Granted, his subs can keep the game within reach usually.

LSU players were playing flat-footed and lazy. They didn't hustle for rebounds or loose balls, didn't fight for anything, they just went through the motions, it is embarrassing and it should be more embarrassing for the players than the coach. 1984/1985 LSU men's basketball team won the regular season title. Jerry Reynolds, John Williams, Nikita Wilson, Don Redden, Anthony Wilson, Derrick Taylor, they had a good team with descent talent. Lost to Navy in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by over 20 points. John Williams was so embarrassed he promised Dale Brown no LSU team with him on the floor would ever lose like that again. The following season was marked by sickness and injury and the Tigers barely made the NCAA Tourny. But, they went to the final four. Coaches can't play the game for the players, so it doesn't matter how embarrassed they are. A player either has pride in their play or they don't, they are either have a strong competitive nature or they don't, there's not much a coach can do to instill that mentality. There's just not enough players on this team that have the drive to not get beat.

Wade isn't full of himself thinking this team is a contender for anything, which I actually like. It's incredibly refreshing.

Yes. It's nice to have a coach that is not delusional. He knew they were the better team this year. No shame in that.

He actually thinks O is terrible. Which makes his neverending defense of JJ even more asinine.

It amazes me how little most LSU fans know about basketball and the college hoops landscape. Coach Wade is doing an amazing job, and we played poorly on defense and failed to block out all night, not that it changed the W-L outcome but it’s a mentality he’s trying to permanently instill in this program. You drill it into guys like Waters, Kiir, Rachal, Sampson, who will then turnaround and help instill it into the incoming freshmen stars who will do the same for the next wave after them. That’s how a great program begins. Not by making excuses after blowout losses like, “Well, Auburn just short the ball incredibly well.”

You focus on YOUR team’s mistakes and you work your arse off to play YOUR best ball.

So you are telling WW what he should feel? I mean, what does he know, he is only the HC. Maybe he should come to you, you post things on a message board. That makes you more qualified than him.

Funny he would say that because I was embarrassed because of what he said to Auburn Head Coach before the game.

"You guys are going to win"

He was referencing winning the SEC. That wasn't his opinion of the outcome this particular game.

Pretty harsh phrasing, imo. Sure, LSU looked lost today, but Auburn had some voodoo sprinkled on their three point shots today...nothing you can do to stop that. Losing, even losing big, to a 18-2 team on road is not embarrassing.

Even when we were contesting 3s they were going in with the net barely moving. No matter how well we played there was no way we were winning with them shooting like that.

I don't know why you got downvoted so much. I heard that, too. He didn't know Coach Pearl was miked up, but when they showed the clip of them shaking hands before the game, Wade said "We're gonna need it" when Pearl said good luck, then said "You are going to win."

I love Wade and believe he is the guy to turn this program around, but that was not a very encouraging at all. Hopefully, we show a little more toughness against a good Tennessee team on Wednesday.

This is partially true, except for your last sentence - there IS something a coach can do and it's his ultimate weapon... playing time.

If a player isn't giving enough effort or intensity, a coach can yank that player off the floor and put in someone who WILL give the effort. That might deliver the message to the entire team that effort and intensity will be demanded, and there will be consequences.

Now of course the downside is that this means putting some better players on the bench, so that may result in losses, but the long-term effects should be positive.

Waters got yanked several times on Saturday and during the season as a whole for loafing it on defense and making bad decisions. Wade has sat him for 10+ minutes in the second half before. Sampson has been a bench fixture as well even with all of his talent.

How could you possibly know that? I thought the same thing when I heard it. The context of the conversation wasthat particular game.
