I was impressed with how quick the 4th down calls came in, there was zero indecision as sometimes happens which delays getting the call in.

We actually would have got it if he didn't call the TO. UGA was confused and out of position.

I have to think our 4th down conversion success was due, in large part, to Joe's hard counts in prior games.

There was a couple of times I didn't think he would snap it and he did and UGA looked slow off the ball.

Since none of us really know for sure what happened, this take is as valid as anybody's:

Think of it as part of a mind game, the intention was always to punt. Calling timeout sends a signal to the opponents that perhaps you are planning a trick play.

What do you think they talked about on their sidelines? Do they change their response? Do they hang back and watch for the trick play and slow their rush? Do they prepare for the trick and not set up a return? Or do they accept the put formation as valid? All you need is a little doubt in the minds of the opposition players.

You decide.

I was glad we called a TO...no reason to risk turning the ball over near midfield with our defense playing so well. If I remember correctly we pinned them inside the 5 and then got the int

Yeah, I didn't mind the punt there, but we called the 3rd and 8 play like we had every intention of going for it on 4th down if we picked up a few yards. My point is I think Orgeron stepped in and called the TO when Ensminger and co. were fully prepared to go for it. I don't think Burrow did it on his own.

All of the 4th down calls came after running plays. One came after a timeout, but a running play right before it. Seems pretty clear that the game plan was to go for it if it was manageable, and the play calls on 3rd down set them all up.

Coach O said in the postgame interview that he was ready to go and Ensminger said he had a play, but noted that it was 3 yards. O said that’s when he decided to call timeout. Sounds like good coaching to me.
