Coach Eaux on AFR - what the summer looks like for LSU football with G. Rush and Hanagriff
Ed Orgeron on AFR 7-10-18

Couldn't ask for a better football coach than Tommy Moffit. He is the best at his job and what he does. He has several different groups every day. Almost 100% attendance by players during the summer.

(Tiger Ree note: A lot of people don't realize Tommy is the ONLY coach for the WHOLE team during the summer. It's not just lifting weights.)

The regular coaches are allowed 2 hours per week to spend with the players. The coaches do installations. They have 13 installations completed. They spend a lot of time in the film room with the players. They spend 15 minutes on the field with the players twice during the week. Tommy Moffit has them the rest of the time.

Also talks about players only practices. takes tremendous leadership. Coaches can't watch but hears they are very well run. 15 minutes of individual, couple minutes of routes, 7-on-7, 1-on-1 pass rush and then team. Just like as the coaches were there. Player only are on Mondays and Wednesdays.

New early signing day makes everything happen much faster - have to make faster decisions. Recruits players for over 2 years talking to the Moms and getting to know the families. There has only been one weekend he can remember that the coaches have not been at LSU for recruit visits. Commits are recruiting other players which helps tremendously.

Talks about the Louisiana shared camps. At least 12 university's coaches have been at every camp. The different coaches share ideas, thoughts, etc.

Talks about formulating an offense from scratch. Talks Slinger, Jerry Sullivan, Tommy robinson and James Cregg all formulated a plan, blueprint. Steve has control over it. In eight games Slinger broke 7 records. Eaux spends most of his time on defense and just assists on offense when he gets a chance.

Some people on here need to skip from 7:40 on. It is about a heartwarming story the family faces and has had to deal with since the beginning.

He did do a funny: said people look at him and then look at her and he tells them they went on a blind date and they wonder if she was blind. Been married for 21 years. Has very strong faith and got him involved in the church and the whole family (boys especially) are heavily involved.

Talks about the new rule allowing players to play in four games and still being able to redshirt. Last year LSU signed 22 players and 20 played. Tremendous advantage for the coaches and players to have this. Some freshmen come in ready and then hit a freshman wall. Some players only play 10-15 plays and lose their RS. Says it happens every year. Mentions Glen Logan a RS sophomore - he wanted to play but Eaux wanted him to RS. It would have been great if he could have played and still be a RS sophomore.

Good post

I didnt Know coaches had even that much time during the off-season.

Do the player piggyback off the 15 minutes of field time? Like the coaches set drills then leave and the players keep working them?

Solid post.

Good to hear the players are taking the initiative and summer workouts are running as legit practices.
These workouts tend to play a huge part in maturing, preparing and forming bonds as a team.

I got a chance to hear most of this live. I hope it's not just more coach speak and it's all true. We know how all coaches are during the off season.

I know that is the rule but I don't believe it. With today's technology with cameras everywhere not to mention O's office overlooking the practice fields. No way in hell that someone isn't peaking in on what is going on or watching a video feed of it. I am sure this happens at every other program as well.

I think Moffit takes over and runs the rest of the practices. On Mondays and Wednesdays they have players only practices so it sounds like they do both. He did say the coaches do the 15 minutes two days a week and the players only practices are also two days a week.

Pretty cool.

What about GAs?

Anyone know the rules on them?

This caught my eye. I guess I knew Ensminger was starting from scratch but it's kinda exciting to have all those coaches collectively designing their own offense to run. After so many years of seeing the same exact offense (God bless you Les), it's nice to have a fresh and totally new offense to see. One that's not a "copy and paste" from someone else or some other program.

Those are some very respected coaches putting the plan together too. I'm optimistic.

I was impressed by something that was said in the "Steve Ensminger Q&A, Part Two" thread. Sounds like the coaches don't mind working and game-planning (even IN-game) together.

"Is the tempo going to be greater? Do you run the risk of going too fast?

Will we use more tempo? No doubt about it. We’re going to huddle. We’re going to do a great job, from Coach Orgeron, Coach Aranda, and myself, to get a feel for the game. It might be, ‘Man, he’s been out there too long, so let’s slow it down.’ Or, ‘We’re in a pretty good deal with our defense right now, let’s go fast and see how they react to it.’"

Yeah, I bet they blackout all of those windows in the facility that look over the practice fields.

Cregg is top notch. Sullivan has a vast amount of experience and learned a lot from Sean Payton’

When the LSU coaches were going to visit the Seahawks (for defense I'm sure) Pete Carroll specifically asked for Sullivan to attend also so he could talk to the Seattle offense.

I would be disappointed if our coaches weren’t watching.

This is teamwork here, and what it takes. Many years of experience and knowledge there. I'd imagine that's what got Canada on hot water. I'm guessing he wanted no input.

One question I'm always curious about. Was brosette starting that game a fu to O?

Oh, sure. Before the play he told him “get in there, and don’t let coach see you until you have the ball. This is really gonna frick him up.”

C’mon, man. You can’t really believe this.

I think We were gonna try and rest Guice and a Williams who were 100% against a “cupcake” team.

Went poorly.

These posts sure sound a lot like the posts you submitted last year about Canada and his offense.
