Coach O manages the clock better than les ever did

Les was never a very good "Gameday Coach". I always look back at that Tennessee game on a Monday night after Katrina. We intercept a pass near midfield just before halftime and Les is running out on the field yelling for a timeout. His assistants are pulling him back. Not a clue.

Overall Coach O has done much better with this. Still have some gripes, like taking the timeout on 3rd down so early in the playclock at the end of the 2nd quarter against A&M (WHY?), but cant complain overall really.

Not only is it not a weakness anymore, it's a strength. Massive upgrade from the previous regime.

This thread wont get as much love as it should, but the fact that we didnt have to bitch about clock management issues all year is a YUUUGGEEE improvement, and noted in my book.

Yes...so why did Etling not throw the ball when we actually tried to drive at the end of the 1st half?

You are probably right. As much as I was/am disappointed with the hire, this is one area that has improved.

Only because he hasn't screwed up yet.

Every game I am amazed when we have all 3 time outs left before the half or going into the last two minutes. O really cleaned up burning time outs in the first and third quarters for no reason.

Exactly. An entire season of not screwing up clock managemennt is a tremendous improvement.

Not sure if he deserves any credit there honestly. Les was probably the worst I ever saw in that regard consistently. And there have been a few others challenged in that regard.

absolutely.
Miles had no clue when it came to the clock.

It would be hard not to best Miles in the clock management arena.

I do think he mismanaged it a bit at the end of the 1st half against Aggie. He burned a timeout when Etling was sacked with 1:30 left. No need to to do that. Let the clock keep running or force TAMU to use one of theirs.

I agree. We haven't had any time outs called on change of possessions, new quarters, or after the other team takes time out. That would piss me off every time.

My only issue is that we have no balls at the end of the first half. We try to run the clock out every single time.

Why not try to get into FG range and steal a few points (if our kickers don't miss it)?

Les never ‘managed’ the clock, he mismanaged it.
