couldn't say they were gonna do this upfront.

I remember having a professor at LSU that just looked us all straight in the eye after one of these announcements and said "they don't pay me enough to come in and teach you on Saturday, I trust you all as adults can do what you need to do to not fall behind in class without coming in on the weekend."

teachers have to be way more pissed than the students, the students will just skip while the teachers have to show up

Yeah
Most professors will cancel those classes and give them some online work they can do as a substitute

It sucks for those students that work on Saturdays

sucks for the students but you had to know this would happen after LSU was pressured into cancelling

Yeah they did this during the Katrina semester.

We didn’t actually have class on Saturday

Stay 10 minutes extra 5 times and they're all caught up.

Maybe 25% of the students will show. That's being optimistic.

the important/tough degrees may not have a choice

The art majors can probably get away with skipping

I was always shocked at how many weird a-holes made up LSU’s administration. It’s crazy how likable people across our state are, and how dislikable and out of touch the people who run our state’s university are. They’re literally doing this just to say “frick you” because people care more about a national championship than class

If you had to choose between two Saturday classes and going to the Natty, give me two Saturday classes lol. I see many of them getting canceled though.

All states have a restricted number of misses in their guidelines. This came out of professors in years back never showing up to class and students still paying for an education they were not getting... so now class hours must be made up. PERIOD. * at least in policy.

It’s your money. If you are okay with paying for a class but getting one less day’s worth of instruction for what you’re spending, that’s your business. It’s college not grade school. It is like paying for a very expensive gym membership but never going. The gym is more than happy to take your money for doing nothing. Seems like a waste to me but to each his own.

Not really, there are SAC's accreditation and set guidelines by BOS in terms of how many class contact hours constitutes a 3 hour college class. So LSU has to set up makeup class days, now whether students show up or not is up to them.

Federal guidelines require Universities to regulate and account for meeting 3 Hour contact time per week to ensure equitable student loan/aide allocation across states and Universities.

So over a 14 week schedule, All Federal guidelines and Accreditation agencies require 3 hours of contact time per week, which is 50 minute/3 days a week or 80 minutes/twice a week.

So again, LSU's administration is doing what it is required to do in terms of federal aide and Accreditation perspective.

Don't they kind of have to do this? Doesn't accreditation require a certain number of scheduled instruction hours? On top of that, some classes and curricula really are gonna need those Saturday hours just because the schedule was already full and there's no fluff in the schedule to be able to take up for the missing hours.

The university will say "We'll make those up on Saturday [WINK] [WINK]", and the professors and students will work it out among themselves as needed based on the needs of each class.

EDIT: I didn't even think about all the federal and financial aid stuff that guy up there talked about.

Well on some things, yes, LSU's admin has made FUBAR decisions, no doubt. But on this one, they are actually doing what is in the best interest of the University.

Just a simple example, a student goes to class on Monday or Tuesday for a 3 hour night class and gets federal aide to cover that entire class for 14 weeks. Well, the student got 1/14 of the total amount to cover the cost of the Course without LSU offering all the classes for the Course. So that can be construed as misuse of federal aide, etc.
