I seriously wasn't trying to compare the two. I tried to make that evident. Just something I saw when looking up old stats during all of this and it was interesting to me how close the totals were through the same amount of ABs. Obviously, not every AB is equal and Deichmann had already set himself apart as the power threat. But no one denies his early struggles. He looked lost his freshman year. What's funny about this is how much Lester defended Deichmann's speed of all things. And his defense. Neither turned out to be much of a factor.

So did your buddy ProjectP in last years thread. Here's his quote

Deichmann is probably top 5 on the team, but he seems to not have functional baseball speed all the time.

Wait so did you

Deichmann is the second fastest outfielder and it shows

You’re*

And no. I haven’t been debating with anyone about this. I simply like stats.

This is why context is important. I agree with project. Top 5. Lester swore he was faster than Stevenson and Laird based on a single reported 60 time. It was hilarious.

ETA: this was when Deichmann was a freshman. You’re trying to call me out and you don’t have a clue.

It’s an apt comparison. Deichmann had his struggles in the field when he played 3B and 1st. Then played OF. I won’t be surprised if Slaughter finds his way to the OF next year.
Although Slaughter is better than Deichmann at 3rd but I haven’t seen him be great there.

Deichmann struggled hitting before he hit. Sound familiar.

And I stand by what I said. The part about him being one of the top 5 fastest people on the team last season. And the part about not having functional baseball speed.

He had straightline speed, especially if you timed him over a distance at which he could gain speed as he went (like the 60).

He didn't have a lot of lateral quickness and was a stiff athlete with waffle irons for hands in the field.

Duplantis, Freeman, Watson, Robertson off the top of my head were faster.

ETA: This is what I said about Slaughter on page two of this thread:

quote:

He's probably in the top 6 or 7 guys on the team in speed. His speed seems to be a little more like Deichmann's in that it's straight line vs functional baseball speed, though. (Compared to Watson who glides when he runs the bases)

He was timed faster than Laird, Bergman & Kramer, not Andrew.

You all of a sudden hate facts, mate?

That would be like me saying Slaughter doesn’t hit the ball hard, despite data that shows his strong excellent velocity. We should embrace information, especially hard data, & use it when applicable

In a 60. That doesn’t make him a faster OF or base stealer or Home to first.

Slaughter has been fine at third and at first, and at times excellent. D is not his problem.

He needs to get better at the plate and s move to the OF won't help him do that.

Just like how a high exit velocity doesn’t make Slaughter a good hitter.

I don't know why there's certain baseball players every season that rustle the shite out of people when they become good. People form uneducated opinions on them and can't admit they're wrong. I've always liked and pulled for Chris Reid. It's a shame the best fans in college baseball can't be happy when someone improves.

No one said it makes him a good hitter.

He seems to have an issue with pop ups at 3rd for some reason.

Eh that's not really what's going on. It's more every year LSU fans pick a punching bag and Slaughter happens to be flavor of the month. Last year it was Papierski for much of the season. The year before it was Kramer

It's definitely been more than that. Foul pop ups count too.
