I’ve seen a lot of people shitting on DJ for his performance against Bama and I don’t get it at all.

Were we watching completely different games? He was open at least 4 times on deep balls and Etling couldn’t hit him. He had a great punt return that was called back because of a stupid penalty. He looked clumsy and awkward on ONE pass that was a poorly thrown ball he was trying to adjust to.

Am I the only one who thinks DJ did his job well?

I don’t think his head was in the game. Let several other punts drop and cost us precious yardage. Half the passes were his fault and half were etlings

He laid it out there for LSU, so no criticism from me. He played well.

Gonna disagree here.

Only one he didnt catch that I remember thinking he may have had a shot at was the first shot of the second half on the sideline. Thought maybe he could have laid out for it but it would have still been tough...

That one yes also, the one where Fitzpatrick got hurt, had he worked back to the ball couldve easily gotten a pass interference call

Honestly, I didn't think about his performance much until I got home and rewatched the game. When I hear a lot of folks talking about something like this that I didn't really notice at the game, it is almost always because the commentators put some strange spin on it and talked about it a lot...same thing happened in this case.

He left somewhere around 75 yards on the field in return yardage.

What about the one that hit him in the hands and would have set LSU up inside the 10 with a chance to make it a 1 score game? Chark laid it all out there on the field Saturday, but that doesn't mean he didn't make any mistakes.

No, its the qb's job tho get him the ball. He could have caught the one in the end zone, but faded left. Overthrows were uncatchable. Underthrows were severely underthrown.

No. Look, I'm a huge Chark fan, but he had his eyes on the ball long enough to judge it properly, and he just didn't.

That is true, not sure what was up there.

I didn't see it that way, looked more like 2 to 1, maybe 3/2 Etling to me. Essentially thing half were completely Etling, 1/4 were Completely Chark, 1/4 were either well defended or 50/50 QB/WR fault.

Etling has been underthrowing previously, seemed to be generally overthrowing against Bama. Not sure if the WR were trying to adjust their speed for the past under throws while Etling was trying to compensate as well?

It seems to me that Etling also continues to be late on his throws on timing plays and many underneath as well as checkdown throws allowing open players to be picked up before the ball can get to them (in other words allowing open windows to close). Still better than our lst two quarterbacks, though.

Alabama is just very good defensively. That is the answer. Etling is not an nfl qb that has the ability to make perfect throws more often than not with that kind of defense. Chark will probably make an nfl roster but he isn’t obj out there either. He did get open better than your average wr, but he could not make adjustments when the ball was in the air and he really did hurt us with that punt he didnt field. Hard to criticize, but if you want to beat Bama you just have make exceptional plays to beat that defense.

he doesn't adjust well to the ball in the air. He could have made a better attempt on the first ball by slowing down more to make the PI even more obvious. The other under thrown ball was bad but he has to make that catch.

He needs to learn to make fair catches out side the 10 years line. He simply lets them go & lose a lot of yards! Against Bama u need all the help u can get!

Not a big deal but he kinda gave up on the first under-throw to the end-zone instead of going up and getting it. Fitzpatrick had no idea where the ball was.

I think it's easy to criticize Chark tho because he wears #7 and isn't Fournette or Mathieu.

There is no question if you look at the game that DJ had some major mistakes. He did get open to his credit and made a few solid plays, and in no way would I question his heart or desire. But he made several major screw ups in the game.

On the first drive of the game, if Chark makes any serious attempt to comeback and catch the football (yes it was underthrown), it would have been interference (Fitzpatrick would have run right through him, and the refs would have had to throw the flag even against Bama).

On the second drive, Etling throws a really nice ball, and for some reason Chark veers to his left in the end zone instead of running underneath it. Nessler made a comment that if Chark would have just kept running it would have been a touchdown. I think he was correct.

And even though the ball was underthown by Etling on the play in the second half, Chark HAS to catch that football. It was a really poor adjustment on the ball and a drop, plain and simple.

And like has been noted by several, he did a poor job on a couple of occasions fielding and/or not fielding punts which cost us serious yardage. That combined with how freaking good JK Scott punted the ball was a major factor in the game. We're trading three and outs with Bama and losing 20 yards in field position, which was huge.
